I have two Chinese Dwarf Hamsters and want to get a bin big enough so that I can separate them but do not know if a regular plastic bin from Walmart is okay to use. Can they chew through the plastic? Where can I find an appropriate bin? Also would i need to cover it?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Do you know the size for the largest bin at Walmart? It is unlikely dwarf hamsters will chew through a bin cage. You would need to make lids for each bin using mesh.

It is recommended a hamster cage is 39 by 19 inches.

This is a great thread with instructions on how to make a mesh lid. :)

Hello & welcome to the forum.
I’ve had Chinese hamsters in a bin cage & no issues with chewing the plastic, as long as you mesh careflly & don’t leave any rough bits that might tempt them they should be fine.
My bin is about the same size as the dimensions Rainbow mentioned, maybe a bit bigger so try to find something at least that size with enough height for a 9 or 10” wheel.

I should have said tall enough for that size wheel on top of a good depth of substrate, deep substrate is important for Chinese hams as they love to burrow.

Hi and welcome :-) I think a popular one is the sterilite 200 quart bin.

Hello ands welcome to the forum. I have nothing to add, but would love to hear more about your hams!
