For those who live with another human, what do you get grumbles about when it comes to hamsters?! :-)

I just had a grumble about spending 38 euros on mixerama hamster food :ROFLMAO: I do feel a bit guilty but they do love it. I mix it with Harry Hamster and Bunnny Dream though, so it lasts longer. Annoyingly, more than half of that 38 euros was postage costs!

I used to get grumbles about hamster bedding all over the floor but I think everyone has got used to that now :ROFLMAO:

True - although I've never had grumbles about that. Not from visitors anyway - visitors are always wowed! Family - well occasionally a surprised comment at how large it is but they accept my explanation as to why it's necesary :-) The fact that both a visiting vet and vet nurse were "wowed" though, speaks volumes and it's a bit sad that even a mobile vet and vet nurse didn't seem to know about cage size and enrichment.

I get grumbles about letting Oaky free roam in a whole bedroom, which I supervise, because I insist that I can tell she really wants to explore that way so it must be necessary, and my husband doesn't agree that it's necessary. :)

I don't do it daily, and sometimes I just put her in the bathtub with other play materials to give her some out of cage time when I can't supervise her constantly, but she seriously desires totally open exploration. Any time I have her in a pen or the tub she will inevitably spend a good deal of trying to figure out how to bust out. When I can spare a little time I close and plug up the bottom of the door to the bedroom that has the least trouble to get into and let her run around for awhile while I do work in there or something.

Yea, large cages lend themselves to landscaping (hamscaping) and can look like little gardens rather than tanks 🏡🐾

I think free roaming must be their favourite thing, once they've been out, they can never settle for a cage or even a playpen, and always want a good run. A bit like a dog really. Luckily hamsters don't poop much. If you have a safe room, you are lucky. I opt for a 4'x2' playpen.

Luna must be Oaky's twin sister from a different litter. I put her in a 6 foot x 2 foot playspace with a ton of toys and she spends the entire time planning the great escape in one corner. The playpen is metal, but she is convinced that someday she will either go over, under or through that damn wall.....
