I am getting a hamster next Tuesday. He is from a breeder and is already hand tame. Very excited!

Oh that is wonderful news! What species? Are you keeping your eco habitat after all then?

Syrian. Long haired!!!

Not sure re the eco habitat. Prefer barred cages ...

Thank you Socks mum. I can barely contain my excitement and have been buying bedding, carrying box, sprays and even a glass water bottle although he will have a bowl.

He will be going into the st elmo xxl which is 100 x 54 x 35 so quite short. Will see how he goes. At least I have the eco as a back up unless I get reckless and buy a taller barred cage ...

Tempted by the borneo L cage which is 99 x 54 x 56. It is 79.99. Just seen that it doesnt ship to the UK sob sob. I want it more now!!!

Very exciting. I remember Woodstock - your long haired Syrian 😊. Thats right isn’t it? I know it was some years ago so hope I got the name right!

Yes it’s so annoying when most of the German cages won’t ship to the Uk any more. The Plaza 100 is only £80. I do like the Plaza 120 a lot (£100). Raffy was in that. Just a slightly larger plaza 100 - extra depth.

You know you can still get the Barney cage from Zooplus? That’s about £80 too. If you don’t mind the small doors.

That’s very exciting 😃😃 have lots of fun organising their new home this week. Look forward to hearing more 😊

Well remembered! After Woodstock I had a really beautiful long haired black eyed cream hamster called Arun. He loved the borneo xl. Wish I still had it. Oh well.

Will have a good look at the savic cages and see which would fit best in the space that I have available.

I remember Arun too :-) I didn't realise you had had a Borneo XL though. You don't fancy the Barney cage then? I suppose the height makes it a bit limited for bedding (and I found the small front doors frustrating). I like the Savic Plaza's though with the big front door. The 120 has a top door as well but it's very deep space-wise. They're more flimsy in a way than things like the Barney or Borneo as they're knockdown cages but once put together they're fine.

Gopal (long haired dark brown hamster) had a barney cage and was really happy in there but I also found the little doors frustrating.

I think the savic 100 would fit the space best but do wonder if its worth paying 80.00 in order to get 15cm more in height ...

Will try my little honey pie in the st elmo and see how he goes.

The st elmo xxl does have the same teeny doors as the barney but because it is shorter it is really easy to access.

If you're interested in the standard Savic Plaza there are loads of second hand ones available :-) They usually go for between £30 and £50.

Here is a short video of his set up.

I haven't put in a house of any kind but he can make some tunnels. Do you think that will be enough?

You can always see how it goes and add more later :-) I think he might sort a few things out himself first and has a nice shelf :-)

For videos you need to upload them to youtube and then just paste the link on here and it opens out and plays directly on the forum (embedded). If you don't want them to be public, you can set them as "unlisted". Then they are private basically, except wherever you paste the link (ie on here).

You must be so excited getting him tomorrow!

Well today I collected him. He is wonderful. I put a teeny pringles tube into the carrier and lifted him into the cage.

He had a swift look round then burrowed into the bedding and was gone!

I would like to edit the title to show his name. Can that be done?

Oh he's gorgeous! The title can be edited but you could just start a thread for him in the Syrian section now with his name in :-) What is his name? I especially love the second to last photo :-)

He is gorgeous, lovely pale fur and ruby eyes!
