I turned mine off in advance. Settings emergency calls then you get a choice to turn off extreme alerts.

I can’t imagine it being real - unless it was a world war nuclear attack or something. And then what would we do? Run around like headless chickens.

I think it’s meant to be for flood warnings maybe - so presumably they can target phones in certain locations.

I read that is has been used for real alerts on a limited number of occasions. Once over an alert during a serious storm and another to evacuate an area when a WW2 bomb was found. Plymouth? Can’t remember the others but they were confined to the area affected.
