The silly season

Haven't thought about it yet and depends on who is about. If my OH is abroad i'll have to cook for a traditionalist family member and i do not like cooking. I tried it one year but forgot to put a pot under the strainer when straining the gravy and watched the gravy disappear down the sink.
I don't like meat so will be a plate of steamed veg for me and the hamsters but may have to produce a Christmas dinner for said family member.
It will be some ready made meat that can go in the oven in its container requiring minimal handling from me.
I'll take the bag of hemp out of the freezer in a few days to make room for some ready roast meat, roast pots, roast parsnips, yorkshire puddings, red cabbage to go in the microwave, gravy is in the cupboard and the fresh veg i'll get from the farm shop.
Sorted.

Someone i know is taking his family for a family deal curry on Christmas Day so no one has to shop, cook or clean up.

Christmas isn't festive or peaceful in my opinion. There's all those poor turkeys getting fed to be killed to end up on someone's plate. Who knows what happenes to the unsold ones and what the living conditions of their short lives are like.

This year the birdflu got a lot of them and i hope that this will make turkey farmers think twice about rearing turkeys next year.

People would probably roast some other kind of unfortunate bird instead but the added cost of a goose for example, may put some people off.

Not sure what else i can say to put people off their traditional, expensive, labour intensive Christmas dinner, lol.

I agree with you Beryl. I also feel Christmas puts pressure on people to feel happy when they may not be. Many do not have family and they are made to feel lonelier.

I haven't got a problem with Christmas as such and many people look forward to it but i feel sorry for the turkeys and think that more vegetarian options should be made available.

I hear you - although we are meat eaters but tend to buy local (and often get game given to us - but that’s another issue!). My decision will partly depend on who I’m cooking for and I’m not sure about that yet! But I will probably go with what is easiest for me. I’m just not keen on frozen raw meat and the faff of defrosting it properly. (Except for mince). The advantage of a Turkey is it does make a lot of meals! And we were eating it till Easter last year at various times - Turkey curry etc.

I had just about decided on lasagne with all the Christmas veg. But then decided that is a huge faff to make too and sticking a bird in the oven is easier. So it depends if there are local turkeys available from butcher. If not then curry sounds good!

If you are cooking for two then you could cook something simple. I hope you are not feeling stressed. I know how overwhelming it can be.

Thank you Rainbow. No not stressed about it - just fishing in case anyone had a really easy option lol!

Somehow I just fancied eating something different this year but have gone with a bird from the butcher in the end again. Decision made :-). I had already decided that last week then someone told me there was a shortage so I thought about other options. I’ll do lasagne another day but find it a faff! I would happily just buy a load of ready meals and stick them in the freezer but our supermarket deliveries aren’t that reliable any more - loads of stuff out of stock all the time.

That is such a shame things are out of stock all the time. It is good you have made a decision now. I can understand you feeling like something different. Lasagne takes ages! Haha.

Strangely lasagne is really nice with Christmas veg! Had it when eating out one year. And technically I could make it in advance and freeze it - but I am really bad at defrosting things and get stressed about how long to leave them and then find they are still frozen or too unfrozen!

I can imagine that works well together. It is tricky defrosting things. I know some people just leave everything over night to ensure they are fully defrosted.

Phew - the football has now finished (Argentina won). Now for some normal tv .....

Tv is not very interesting now. There are just lots of Christmas films.

Netflix then :) Tbh I'm not that bothered about TV anyway but glad the football has finished!

Do you like anything on netflix? I got it because I thought it had a show I wanted to watch. It was not on there and I cannot find anything worth watching.

No not really! OH wanted it but not sure it's worth keeping as we hardly ever watch it. Although did watch The Crown.

Food sorted (almost) except OH raided the Christmas chocolates. Now I need to get some more. I had all the hamster food and treats and presents organised well before the human ones lol! Complaints that the freezer is full of hamster stuff. But as I pointed out - that's only for a week. And the hamsters didn't raid the chocolate!
