Tako the Takoyaki

Today, Tako still trying to adapt to his cage. He loved his wheel so much and i tried to bond with him today as well, i gave him a little piece of strawberry on my palm hand. For the first time he ate strawberry and enjoy it even its only for a small bites. I gave him a sorgum sprays in the corner yesterday, and he love to eats that. Just to make sure he kept hydrated in this hot temperature, i put an cold water into his drinking bottle. Hopefully i can bond with him

Thanks, Maz. Im still learning to take photos with better angle. Tako should learn more from Raffy, because Raffy take always do cute poses

Today i made some playpen for Tako, maybe this is seems so boring for Tako because only small amounts can be played with(my packages still dont arrive yet). Its been 3 days since Tako came here, i tries to bond with him but dont made any progress yet. I gave a cube of dried chicken to attract him, but he still insist to be a cool guy. I put him on a ceramis house (even he doesnt want to sleep there and always sleep on the burrow) and put him in his playpen, however when he touched his playground, i felt he was nervous and doesn't play his beloved wheels and had me shock when he was able to get outside the playpen (i will make a new playpen soon), he ran so fast and got him in the corner with a cup and let him enter the cup by himself and put him in the cage gently. When entered, he plays with his wheel as usual.

They can be very quick, but I'm sure he will enjoy some playpen time, when you set up the next one.
It just takes a bit of time for the little hamsters to feel comfortable.

That sounds like quite a scare if he escaped the playpen It's very early days. If he's only been with you 3 days, then maybe try him in it once or twice a week So he has chance to adjust a bit.

Thanks for the advice, Maz & Hanks. He bited me a bit when i gave him a cube of dried chicken. I felt tickle but fore sure i hope thats is a new progress for me to bond with him. I will tries to bond with him first by talks near the cage and give him treats (Fresh Vegs and Fruits) and then goes for playpen bonding later. Wish me luck

Syrians explore things with their teeth and might start to nibble your finger, especially if you are feeding them. Socks used to so this, but eventually stopped because I always got my finger away from his teeth and it was unproductive for him. I can handle him and he doesn't use his teeth to object so don't be put off by the contact with his teeth, it's normal and not aggressive.

They can try to get through the smallest spaces, under doors, for example, and may become trapped. So if you can get your fingers into a gap, it is good to block it up in case he tries to use it, Syrians are notorious for trying to escape and they can also jump surprisingly high. Maz's hamster jumped about 40cm once and got over a play pen. Luckily as they grow up they become a bit less agile.

It was 30cn . The height of the playpen. What he did was stand on a hide on the playpen and took a flying leap from it. Got his front paws onto the edge of the playpen and pulled himself over! I caught him and put him back but once he’d done it he kept trying again and again and I kept hearing this thud as he hurled himself at the side of the playpen and missed. I resolved it by removing the taller hid from the playpen and moving everything else well away from the edges into the centre . They are such escape artists! Do you know how he got out of the playpen? If you have a bathtub you could turn that into a playpen when needed - they can’t get out if that - the sides are too high and slippery!

Yeah, I tried to not shock him by take my finger suprisingly when he nibble. His nibble felt tickle and have quiet unique feeling .

Yeah i was suprised when he was able to go out from his playpen. Even i blocked all the small holes and make sure there is no hole inside, he still can found it by pushed himself into a small hole bit by bit to make it larger, So i nominated him as a Maze Breaker. Ponyo also have an ability to hiking her cage like a Spiderman, the cage is slippery, tho. I dont know however i felt like they playpen should be like Ninja Warrior's competition.

Now, i still think to make DIY Infraboard Playpen or should i buy poll ball for him. Because he is chewer right now, i bought a lot chew things such as Wallnut, Dried Corn and Rottan ball to make sure he don't chews the wooden things inside his cage.

The best toy for hamsters is a nice hamster wheel. There is a thread on which wheel to choose on the forum. Even if you have a wheel, it is nice to get a new model, like the latest car, and a nice discussion of play pens. There're things called hamster balls which are closed, but they are not safe as their feet can get caught in the ventilation slots and twisted. Maze Breaker the Hamster Ninja, very good. Hamsters have been preparing for this for a long time Soon there will be nothing that can hold a determined hamster

Heya! Got some cold here and cant get near Tako for awhile. Tako love his new wheels and sadly he love to pee there also he love the seedmix so much. I gives a bit of carrot, cucumber, strawberry and dried breast chicken and he love it all. Meanwhile, he still a shy boy and doesnt like being lifted too much. However there is a good sign, he already get up on my palm even just for awhile
