Skating, if that's a hobby

I like to go skating a lot. There's a rink about ten minutes drive from the farm I'm renting but there is also a pond about half a km down the road and today, I spent a few hours shoveling the snow off. Its been so cold and I've been stuck in the house for three days since the vehicles won't start, so I decided instead of sitting on my bum on the couch today, I would finally go make myself a rink! It was a brisk -38 C today and I don't think my lungs are happy with the cold exercise but tomorrow, I can go skating!

That looks amazing! As you say, better than sitting on your bum all day I imagine with those temperatures, the ice is quite hard and dry so harder work to skate on? I went to an outdoor ice rink once and it was harder work to skate than an indoor one that melts a bit and gets all wet!

Yes! They actually call any outdoor ice "hard ice" which I didn't know for a long time. I went to an indoor rink at some point and it was so strange to skate on. The pond ice actually dulls your skates faster than an indoor rink. Thought that was interesting. In the end though, I prefer outdoor!

Really?! I'll try to get some more photos! I have a little family of four here- there were two pups this summer and it looks like they made it! This might actually be one of the summer babies! The road I live on is a dead end and only one other house at the very end so it's very quiet and dark. Sometimes, it's a little spooky but it's nice and remote. I like all the wildlife!
