Hello all, I've just got a new baby hamster for my kids - she's gorgeous! We're buying things to keep her happy and busy and we got a seagrass ball as part of some chew toys. But I've noticed she not only chews on it but puts pieces in her pouch. I just wanted to check if that's safe as it seems to me some of those bits of seagrass can be pointy? Should I allow her to do this? I don't want her to damage her pouches!

Hello and welcome! Glad you have a gorgeous new baby hamster :) Seagrass is supposed to be safe to chew, but I'd probably err on the side of caution and remove it and replace it with some cardboard chew items if she's a bit of a chewer. What species is she? We have a thread on cardboard creations that I'll link below - you can make treat parcels or just cardboard hides they can happily destroy!

Also does she have any chew sticks? Whimzees are popular with hamsters - these mini toothbrush whimzees are popular and you can stick sunflower seeds between the bristles sometimes and they can have fun getting them out. They can get quite excited finding a whimzee! You can buy them singly here but it's an idea to get a few at a time.

Thank you Maz! She's a Syrian. Those links are so helpful, really grateful! So much information on here.

It would be lovely to see a photo of her! Female syrian - yes she will chew things and destroy them ha ha. Even things like cardboard egg boxes can be good for them to shred.

Ooh I love her. She’s very sweet and looks like she’s concentrating on something 😊
