Sand bath ideas

I changed your thread title to "Sand bath ideas" instead as the coffee jar idea was a while back now

I've had some like that as well (the carrot topped houses) - very annoying when they come a bit bald. It will still make a nice sand box - you could either leave the loose hay at the bottom or put it in something else or spread it in a small area. They are very small pieces.

Yes I think I will put the hay in a shoe box and he can thow it around it's very soft

A dwarf should have access to a sandbath at all times really. A sandbath has different uses to different hamsters. I use a little poop scoop to remove clumps of wee and replace the sand with fresh when it gets smelly. Some hamsters snack in them so they end up with lots of seed shells which i remove with a small long handled sieve.
I wouldn't put it in the playpen just because it can get messy.

I don't think Jain was going to put it in the playpen - she's using it as a sandbath in the cage. I think she meant the loose bits of hay could be put in a play box.
