Sally is my around 4yo guinea pig. She was adopted last may along with her sister Addy. Poor baby has been constantly weeing on herself and doesn't seem to be cleaning herself. She's been on metacam for a few weeks and the dose has been increased today following the x Ray. She's also being treated for a urine infection as she has blood and protein in her wee.
The x ray- in my vets words her knees look terrible. Definitely arthritis but also something weird so they're sending her x rays to an orthopedic vet along with a referral for laser therapy. Where there's normally cartridge it looks as if she's growing bone 😱
Going to pick her up soon! I hope she's feeling better soon and her referral is accepted quickly!

Im so sorry to hear this. Do you know if she has had babies before you adopted her? I have a friend whose adopted piggy could not control her bladder due to having babies at a very young age.

Sorry to hear Sally really isn’t doing so well Em, I hope she can get the treatment she needs & gets better soon.

I don't think she had but can't be 100%! This is a new problem however she didn't used to wee on herself. 😞 I've got her home and given her a big cuddle and she's taken her meds like a superstar ✨🥰

Thankyou 💖 I hope so too! They've sent the referral already so it's just a case of waiting now 🥰

I hope you get the results soon. She is in the best hands possible with you.

Thankyou 💖 hugs are appreciated 🥰 she is in need of another bum bath bless her- she hasn't been cleaning herself 😔

Poor baby. I hope that does not stress her out too much. At least it will keep her feeling nice and clean.

She's having them quite regularly bless her :( her skins getting sore from all the wee so unfortunately they are necessary, she wasn't a fan at first but does seem to be getting used to them now and gives the best snuggles while getting dry 🥰

Sorry to hear Sally has this. How old is she? I guess humans get similar issues in old age! Incontinence and joint problems! But maybe she’s not that old? I’m sure if the urine infection is treated it will help :-). I have cartilage problems in my knees - I wonder if your vet could give me laser therapy as well! :-). Doctor hasn’t suggested it yet!

She's around 4 (which is the average my piggies have lived to) but I guess with rescues we never know for sure their age. She has twisty old lady nails 💅 (theyve been cut- i mean they grow twisty) so I would say 4 minimum. She's in fab health other than these issues though- my other piggies have all lost significant weight by this age so I'm pleased She's my chunkiest girl with a great appetite! It is just a case of finding treatment that works for her :)

So she’s not really old then I guess. I do hope the vet treatment works.

Poor Sally just had to have a bigger bath than normal, she was wet all the way to her armpits bless her I think she was still a little woozy from the anesthetic 🥴 but morning meds were a success and she had a massive half an hour snuggle after her bath 🥰 8 months ago her and her sister were the most skittish piggies I'd ever met! I never in a million years thought I'd get them to enjoy cuddles but now they're both big cuddle monsters 😍 I'm so proud of how far they've come 🥰

That is so precious. It goes to show how much your patience and love has paid off. They feel safe with you. :)

It is so so worth it! I also have to give credit to my girls who have put an equal amount of effort into gaining their trust 🤩🥰

It's lovely for Sally and for your girls - to be able to have the cuddles :)

Sally hasn't needed a bath today or yesterday 🤩 I'm taking that as positive that the new treatment is working 😁
