Hi all. I've regularly been weighing Ares since I adopted him and he'll be a year old next month but doesn't seem as heavy as my last robo. Niko (previous robo) weighed 30g, while Ares only weighs 20g.

Currently on Harry hamster with added mealworms, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. He also has a variety of sprays around his enclosure as well as a whimzee. He gets a tiny bit of veg most days. I'm going to mix in some of the little ones hamster food Beryl mentioned in the food thread for more variety.

So my question is, for those who've had robos, how much did they weigh?

I'm not too worried about Ares weight as it's staying quite stable at the moment, although I think there's plenty of wiggle room for him to gain more weight.

I believe 20g to 25g is average for a robo :-)

Just goes to show how much it can vary! Robos can come in different sizes! It’s like saying the average Syrian is between 120 and 180g, but I’ve had two who were 225g and 280g!

I think the lower end of the average is the important number though - as anything under that may be underweight.

Having said that - I need to weigh Pip! Who has always been teeny tiny! But has filled out a bit.

I need to weigh Bernard who has filled out quite a bit. He's just short.

Haha got to love Monty, little squish bean. 😍
I'll look into getting some more weight on him.

20g might be right for Ares if he is small. I tend to go by whether they look and feel a healthy size for their weight and don't look to thin or too chunky!

Ares is on smaller side. It's difficult to get hands on Ares to feel body condition but something we are building up to.

Even just looking at them you can get a good idea. Although robos start looking a bit ropey and greasy anyway from 18 months on usually! How old is Ares now? I can tell from looking at Pip that he is chunky and healthy looking so I'm not worried. He is due a cage clean though so will do a health check then. (If I can find him ha ha - haven't seen much of him for ages).

Maybe just add some hemp seeds daily, separately, just in case - good for calories and condition as chock full of vitamins and minerals (and high calorie).

Thanks Maz. Ares will be 1 sometime within the next month or so. Ares looks ok but with his coat that can be deceiving. He too needs to be cleaned out soon so will do his hands on check then. (I'll look into getting some hemp seeds too).
