Could she be grooming you or just feeling you with her teeth like a baby maybe? My sweetie still nibble a bit and I don’t know why
Aww she is sooo cute! We have a section here were you could make a diary for her. You can tell us all about her, post videos and pictures too if you would like to.Here she is Sweetie
Oh thank you very much!Aww, Sweetie is so cute!
A lot of dwarfs nibble without biting. Some grow out of it as they get older. I had a dwarf who licked me. No idea why.
How old is Sweetie? Young dwarfs often nibble to test if you are edible.
That is even better as you rescued her.Oh thank you very much!
She should be between 8/10 weeks I think. Unfortunately I bought her from pet4home because I couldn’t find a breeder. They couldn’t tell me how old she is but I love her
How interesting. I'm yet to have the pleasure of being bit by a dwarf. I've been acquainted with Syrian teeth though.Oh yes, Beryl has been bitten by a very angry and assertive Robo called Scottie on two occasions when she inspected his nails.
I didn't get as far as cutting his nails yet but have bought snugly fitting, leather enforced gardening gloves for that purpose.
I did trim his nails when i first adopted him but he was a bit scared then and didn't move.
All i need to do now is catch the little devil during daylight hours without getting bitten.
I've been bitten once before by a foster Robo called Rupert who was a very grumpy little man. Even his little face looked frowny. I don't think he was that scared though.
A Robo bite feels like a pin prick because they have tiny but very sharp teeth.
Yes, like a prick with a sewing needle, it can bleed for ages.
It doesn't hurt afterwards and it's nothing like a proper Syrian's bite that can feel tender for days.
Every hamster deserves love and happiness, no matter where they came from. It's not Sweetie's fault she ended up in a petshop.Oh thank you very much!

When they're very young they tend to test everything to see if it's edibleMy sweetie still nibble a bit and I don’t know why
Very interesting thank youWhen they're very young they tend to test everything to see if it's edibleIt's a learning process. Also it's a good idea to wash your hands before handling her - in case you smell of food (eg putting her food out or if you've just eaten something). And only use plain soap - not something floral or honey scented that might taste interesting! But she's probably just testing you. A nibble is not the same as a bite. They tend to only bite if they are frightened or in pain. They can sometimes give a gentle nip (that doesn't really hurt) if they are telling you they don't like something - eg if they've been held too long and don't feel secure or if you're holding them up too high for their comfort zone or something. Or if they have just woken up! It's instinctive if they're still half asleep because they're not sure what is coming towards them.
I've added your photo of Sweetie to your introduction threadBut as Rainbow says, there's a section where you can have a thread for your hamster and update it and add the odd photo. It's a nice way of keeping up with each hamster individually.
