I was just wondering if there was any kind of remote feeder available that anyone has used - like you can get for cats / dogs where it clicks round?

We have booked a very much needed break away and our hamster carer (kind, great with pets neighbour / friend) has since also booked a break away too and for various reasons our few back ups not available. We can feed Day 1 in morning and our neighbour is back on day 4 and can feed Chum from then for another 3 days til we're back, so its just day 2 and 3! His water should be ok as only two days (I know not ideal) so its just his dry mix??

I feel awful enough being away from him for a week, not sure what to do!

There isn't really - I'm not sure if you remember but some students from Eindhoven had a questionnaire about features for a smart hamster cage which I think included a feeder. Assume that was just for a project though and isn't actually marketed.

They do need someone coming in each day really. It isn't just about giving the food, it's to ensure there is nothing wrong and my pet sitter also talks to the hamsters for a few minutes (even though they hide away when she comes!) just for some normality.

So I think you'll either need to find a pet-sitter, or take him to a boarding place. A pet sitter is the best option as then they can stay at home. Have a google - there may be some advertising.

Our neighbour would be able to check on him when shes here so thats fine but i know he wouldnt be able to go to a boarding house, hes not really handable and so particular and I just wouldnt want it.

I think I might have to cancel part of the holiday. I'm so gutted!! its been a tough year and we need the break.

That would be a real shame to cancel part of the holiday. Could you try and find someone else to cover the time when the neighbour isn't here? Assume it's a holiday abroad or at some distance? We did take a hamster on holiday with us twice, but that was when staying in a holiday cottage - and it's a lot to take a lot of extra stuff with you as well. We took a holiday cage and most of the contents of his cage bagged up, so it smelled familiar.

Its only cornwall! I think it would be too much to try and take him. Ughhh.

How long is the drive and is it something like a holiday cottage? But yes it's better to have a pet sitter.
