Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

I think so too! He definitely looks like he's thinking. I think he knows something is afoot. He was very curious about a small side table that is currently plonked randomly in the living room right now (part of the furniture shifting).

By the way he is not interested in chewing the carpet - even though there is a bit started off by Newt. He is only interested in food and his wheel when in there :)

Such cute pictures of Raffy and funny he’s been throwing the pellets out 🤣 How clever that he seems to know something is going to happen.

When I get chance I'll sort the videos out so there is one of him exploring the cage more, rather than just the snippets on the cage setting up video. Although it wasn't quite like exploring a cage as most things were exactly the same as before! He just noticed the odd new things.

After being a bit cautious at first, when he first explored the cage, he was quite perky and active after a while and he has settled right in and back to normal. After taking the peanut and papaya cookie from the shelf (in the cage video) and putting it in his special treat pot the night before, I saw him come out again during the day yesterday for a drink and actually go and sit in the treat pot. Which he doesn't normally do and also it can't be very comfortable as it's full of treats. I think he was eating the cookie in there. Clearly it got a bit uncomfortable because he came out again carrying the cookie - and carried it all the way back to his house :)

I gave him another treat last night as a special thing due to the changes (which don’t seem to have bothered him anyway). I got them from Rodipet a while back. Pip had one a while ago and ignored his. Raffy sat munching his on his shelf. Tonight most of it has gone apart from the outer casing.

It's one of these

He has still wanted to be out to free roam as usual each night. Sunday night was funny though. Normally he climbs on his log in the corner of the shelf and chews the top bars to get my attention to say - hey I want to come out. Why he does it in that top corner I've no idea. But Sunday night he went to do it and realised he couldn't reach the roof and looked a bit surprised. Last night he'd worked out how to do it again, so he still climbs on the log and reaches right up to do it!

It’s great how Raffy has settled in to his new mansion with no bother at all, he’s clearly loving it, had to smile at his antics with his treats, those rodipet treats do sound good, very clever of Raffy to figure out how to get your attention in the slightly different space too!

Aw, he looks so cute inside his treat pot! He is loving the extra space he has. :)

Haha, didn't take him long to figure how to get your attention fast.
Lovely photo of Raffy with the cookie.

Looks like Raffy was busy last night. He had already removed all the contents of that large treat and just left the kind of wafer outer bit which was still in one piece. This morning it looked like this

And his chew stick had been pulled down

The monkey nut he strangely sort of tossed away to the edge of the cage when he moved in the other day is still there - broken up but not eaten. I’m wondering if it smells off or something and he’s trying to chuck it away

That was quite a midnight feast Raffy!
The peanut could be a bit off.

It does doesn't it!

I think so. I thought it just annoyed him sat on his house roof at first when he tossed it and then put it down right at the edge of the cage. I am taking this as a message to remove it. You can get the odd one with a bad nut inside.

Raffy certainly gave it all a good going over during the night.

Raffy seems happy tonight! He came out earlier - about 10pm - sort of chatted to me through the bars with eye contact. Then had a little run in his wheel then went to eat his veg. He just seems happy. He really seems to love the long roof tube. I think because it's easy - the access to it is from a level shelf. I still need to work out what to do with the sputnik. I can't lower it as it would block the new platform underneath. Maybe a bendy stick bridge next to it.

You could attach a small degus shelf to the bars to act as a step to the sputnik.

I'm not surprised that Raffy looks happy. He must be loving it in there.

Yes it's tricky. Anything I put there will either block or obstruct his favourite wash spot on the front of the shelf. I'll see how he goes with the sputnik. Maybe he just misjudged the height when he didn't manage to climb in (he did later) because it used to be about 1cm lower. I think if he can't manage it he'll just go down the cork log instead. And just use it after running down the tube to climb out of at the other end.

He’s still up this morning so had some porridge. He is still a bit funny about the bars being different. He was scent marking them last night in his wash corner. And still looking at them suspiciously this morning. That bit will take time probably.

I am sure he will get used to it. He has so much more space now which is wonderful for him. :)
