Raffy (Syrian Hamster)

Raffy in his wheel under the coffee table, then has a little groom and disappears under the tv cabinet. He often goes under there - which makes me think I really should pull it out and have a look underneath! In case he has a little food and poop hoard under there! Like he did in OH file box. Although there wasn’t anything last time I looked.

Aw, he looks so relaxed there. I bet under the cabinet is nice a dark for him to have a snooze. 😊

He doesn’t seem to snooze when he’s out - he’s always on the go - but you might be right :-). He only ever disappears under there for a short time then he’s back to his wheel. Goes off somewhere, comes back to his wheel and so on. He has definitely taken ownership of the entire room!

Lovely video of Raffy 😍
I can just imagine him thinking of the whole room as his & I really want to know what he’s up to under that cabinet!

So do I ha ha! It's a route to the dark corner behind the cabinet which he likes hanging out in as well so it may just be a route to that corner, with the box he used to leap around in. He doesn't seem to do that any more - his latest focus is the bottom shelf of the book- case where he rummages around a bit.

He really does look completely at home pottering around, he’s a true House Hamster. It’s lovely he lets you share his room 😀

I love the last bit when Raffy looks underneath the TV cabinet. Especially when he looks underneath the left hand side and turns his head to the side. I watched that bit a few times because it made me giggle 🤭🐹💕

You're right he does look under it! Before he disappears under there.

Someone left a plate on the floor last night, under the coffee table (long story). It had only had bresd on. I didn’t see it until I looked down and saw Raffy sitting on it nibbling the crumbs! So I picked the plate up and put it on the sofa and eventually Raffy walked off it.

Exactly! And it was in his stamping ground under the coffee table :)

It amazes me that he is about two years and three months and still has all his hair :). No signs of thinning even behind the ears.

No fooling Raffy in his own area. He really does look in good shape and his fur coat too

Just did a quarter cage clean in Raffy's Plaza 120 - the house end. I started spot cleaning the odd bit while he was in the cage and it was time for him to come out for his free roam. He wasn't too impressed and got his own back by immediately trying to dive under the door barrier while I was putting it in place. Managed to stop him getting through to the kitchen though! I should put the barrier up before I let him onto the floor really, but normally he wanders off in the other direction under the TV cabinet. Tonight he made a bee line for it. I got there before he got as far as the door and managed to keep him in! But he did have a go at trying to sneak under it while I was putting it in place.

He has been very tidy in the nesting end of his house end and I felt mean disrupting it. He pees in one corner of his multiroom house (the toilet didn't fit in this particular house) in a small compartment at the opposite end to where he nests and hoards - but did have a pile of special things at the toilet end, but mostly away from the pee. A whimzee and some larger treats.

At the far end, away from the pee area, he has a little tunnel under the house and burrow/nest, and lots of hoards around that area. I've saved the substrate from the burrow area but it collapsed unfortunately. At least he pees at the end nearest the cage door so it's always quite easy to spot clean the pee area. But it's the first time he's had a proper substrate change since he moved back into it about 3 or 4 months ago. It was all very clean and dry, apart from the pee end. And organised really. What a clever little boy he is. I removed the older bits of hoard near the bottom of the cage, that didn't look so fresh. He had quite a big larder very near his cosy round burrow/nest and I've saved most of that as it was the newer food. I'll put some new food back as well. Just finishing off.

I'm sure he will appreciate the clean, they are so clever with the burrows, he'll soon make them again.
He is cheeky, he has a big space to free roam, but they always want to be, where they are not supposed to be. Glad you got to him.

That was very quick and clever of Raffy! He is so tidy using one area for his toilet.
