If he seems ok in himself then I wouldn’t worry too much about how long he’s been on oxbow but do make the change as soon as you can.
You will need to do it gradually as it is a very different diet if you switch to a more natural seed mix, just give both for a while gradually increasing the amount of the new food daily over a week or two & see how it goes.
They don’t really need vet checks, going to the vet can be stressful for them & unless there is something obviously wrong then he won’t benefit form going to be honest.
Very cute photos!

Aw, those pictures of you both are adorable! 🥰

Sorry to hear you are unwell. I hope you feel better soon. I hope your cat is better soon too.

Lovely photos :) You've had good advice above about switching diet. Take care of yourself as well :-). I think it might be better not to give fruit altogether really, with Chinese being a diabetes prone species. It can really help with preventing any onset if they have the genetic make up for diabetes, by avoiding sugars altogether.

Just one very important question. I ran out of food and don’t get paid until Thursday. I looked up what can hamsters eat if you run out of food? It listed that : seeds, oats, various fruits, and veggies and nuts should be plenty. I kinda disagree. It just seems that something is missing. Today I went for a walk and picked dandelion leaves, clover, and nice hearty grass. I am going to give that to him tonight with some oats, a walnut half, celery and small ear sized piece of cucumber. Would that end up being enough? Only thing missing is seeds…For a whole diet.

Ok I will stop the fruit :( thanks

Thank you 😊

I have some scans of my abdomen coming up, and my vet expenses are going to leave me broke until July😬

It's actually possible to feed a balanced diet with surprisingly few ingredients! And in the short term, it isn't so important, as long as they're getting some protein and fat every day.

For a couple of days, what you've listed sounds fine, although I'd cautious feeding plants picked from outside as they may have been sprayed with something. Better to stick to plants from your own garden that have been washed.

I hope you and your cat both feel better soon :)

Oh no! I hope the scans go well. Im sorry to hear about the vet expenses. They can be very high.

You can get some very unehlpful advice in pet shops so I wouldn’t take too much notice of that.
High fat diets aren’t really good for them, but a moderate amount of healthy fats is necessary.
I don’t know about fatty liver disease, that’s not a common problem with hamsters, too much fat can be an issue with diabetes prone species particularly though.
Seeds are an essential part of the diet, but seeds aren’t simple either & are generally classes as fatty or starchy seeds which is why a good mix is important as the manufacturers should provide these in balance & then it’s not something you need worry about.
Most hamsters love nuts & they are great as a treat but should definitely be given only in moderation, so just a tiny piece of if a pine. nut which are small just one a few times a week is probably enough.
Hope that helps a bit, my brain still isn’t on full power after being unwell this last week!
Elusive, I didn’t see this one right away. Sorry you are unwell too. Are you feeling better this week? I have migraines and eye strain a lot, plus gastrointestinal problems, and repercussions from trauma like ringing in the ears …. Nothing too terrible yet but some days I can feel quite sick if I eat foods my body says no too.

Thank you, Daisy! :)

That sounds very unpleasant and I hope you feel better soon. If it's a virus, these things can linger on a bit.
