Pudding

It really is stressful and especially when you hear different things all the time. It can be so hard to know what to do and who to listen to. The Savic is a great size though. :)
Thanks. I will probably add more things for her to do through time. She really seems to love burrowing so she'll love the deeper bedding. If she ever forgives me for moving her. 🤣

Aw, it is lovely the way hamsters love deeper bedding. How deep is the bedding? Usually when people get the Savic they either buy panels to increase the bedding or do a DIY job using seagrass mats or cardboard. The minimum bedding depth is now 8 inches. It just shows how hamster care has changed recently. Just two years ago there did not seem to be this kind of information anywhere. :)

It can be a bit stressful like that these days. And actually one thing we grumble about on here is there are no medium height cages! They are either so low you can't fit much bedding in or so tall you have to work out a solution. To be honest, the maxi duna is probably fine if you just have deep bedding at one end.

The new Blue Cross and PDSA care guides that came out earlier this year recommend 20cm to 25cm minimum bedding, so Facebook and the internet are awash with people saying - your bedding isn't deep enough. The forum recommendation is that ideally it is 20cm or more, but with a minimum of 15cm with a good house (ie the depth of the cage base).

I am sure she will forgive you. In a bit of time :) . I think she will love burrowing in that bedding and it will feel cosier.

I've got plexiglass panels. The bedding is deeper than the base of the cage by a fair bit. I literally can't go deeper or her platforms will be useless and I've spent about £40 on them.

I hope she settles down a bit tonight, but it might be a couple more days. Ditto what I said on Frankie's thread though - Pudding has so much lovely enrichment at floor level to enjoy that she may not be the slightest bit interested in climbing bars.

The perspex is great isn't it?!

By the way, I love the photo of Sydney in the photo comp!

She's had a massive digging spree and the bedding is even higher than it was. 🤣🤷🏽‍♀️ think she's loving the space. Sydney is a little sweetheart. He's scared of his own shadow though 😟, goodness knows what his old owners done with him. But he's safe now and that's all that matters.

Aw, so lovely Pudding it settling into her new cage.

Hopefully in time Sydney will feel more confident.😊

Aw that sounds great :-) Typical hamster, messing up all your work! Sydney looks very sweet. I'm sure his confidence will increase once he's settled in with you and he has a nice home with you.

My Syrian, Raffy, was similar at first. He was actually quite outgoing and wanting to be out of the cage all the time, but at the same time he was terrified of hands and would bite if a hand came near him. It took me a couple of months of playpen taming with gloves on till he stopped biting. He had been a child's pet previously, then in a rescue for a while.

Puddings enclosure looks great, lovely to hear she is enjoying digging and burrowing in all the bedding. Hope she’s calmed down now and is starting to settle in her new home.

Sounds like Pudding is loving her new home and is really making it her own.
Sydney sounds very sweet. I'm sure with your care he'll be more relaxed soon.
How many hamsters do you have?
For some reason I thought it was 3. Perhaps I missed read.

I did have 3 but sadly lost Wren the robo a few weeks ago. 😞

It's always great when they really start building up a big burrow system, I love knowing they're settling in and making it their home. Sounds like the move is already well worth it
