* NOT WET TAIL *
Hi, everyone. My hamster Cowboy has had some odd health hiccups here and there. He is a pedigree "ethically bred" big boy, weighing well over 250g (not overweight, just big!).
It started a few months ago, when I smelt quite a strong smell from his cage. I can't really describe it, but I am sure it is his urine, not poo. I checked his underside and it was very wet, as though he had peed and ran through it on his wheel. The smell ONLY happens when he is running on his wheel. This only happened on one night, but needless to say the very next day he was on the vet table getting looked at. The vet prescribed him some UTI medicine and sent me on my way.
Since then, he has never had the wet area on his underside. However, I do make sure to do thorough checks and last night I spotted that he may have dry poo stuck in that area. He is due his 6 month checkup, but just thought I would ask if anyone has any ideas? Maybe he slept and pooed without moving much? Would a different sand help, and could it possibly be his long fur catching it?
Will get a photo and add it here as soon as he wakes up tonight.
