Oreo

I bought a Syrian female for my daughter in December
She is the feistiest, biggest & craftiest hamster of all time
Hardly saw her for the first month, she must have been hatching her plans!!
In the last month she has been able to open the metal cage at night unless she has 3/4 hours in the living room/kitchen. Absolutely relentless
Then I noticed her with stuffed cheeks when she climbed out of the cage
She's only decided to build a holiday home in an empty drawer in the kitchen. This drawer now has bedding, food & snacks!!
Just wondering if it is the warmer weather that's prompted this.
At least 10 inches of bedding & in the winter you wouldn't see her for 12 hours. Now her bed is very shallow and she covers herself in very light paper bedding
Luckily she has no interest in any wires at all

Hello & welcome to the forum.
Sounds like a fairly typical female Syrian, they always seem to be up to something,
The warmer weather could make her more active.
It really isn’t safe for a hamster to be out of it’s enclosure unsupervised though, you need to find a way to secure the lid so she can’t get out for her own safety.

H, thanks for the warm welcome, I've put magnets on each side of the door. No way she can open them now!
She is supervised in the living room & kitchen at all times
Still doesn't stop her from being pure mischief

That’s good, sounds like she’s having a lot of fun then!

Hello and welcome to the forum :) You sound like you have your hands full there ha ha! Glad you managed to find a way to secure the cage. I have a male syrian who would rather be out of the cage than in it - even though he is in a 118cm cage. Does she bar chew at all? Just wondering how she's reacting if she can't get the cage door open now! I think it's common for them to have little hoards and nests around if they free roam.

It could well be the warmer weather too. They don't like getting too hot and will often abandon the nest and sit out somewhere in the cage if too hot. Having a ceramic hide can help have somewhere cool to go to.

She sounds such a bundle of fun! Looking forward to seeing a photo of her :). I'm guessing she's black and white? Hamsters are very good escape artists.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Your hamster sounds like a right little character and i'm looking forward to hear more about her.

Does Oreo have a wheel that is at least 28cm to burn off some of her energy?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Made me laugh about the draw in the kitchen 🐹💕
