Thank youOh my gosh this is adorable! What a fantastic digging area too.
Sorry for the late response Beryl, was having a heck of a time trying to type/text on my phone yesterday, so got my laptop out today which is easier for my dancing HD fingers lol! Right, Norberts dig box it actually a 28liter fish dank, its 12'' deep. At the bottom is an inch of megazorb, but the rest is well pressed down cocfibre, nothing else. You can buy this stuff in blocks, and just add water to break it down and expand it. But... then (in like a hamster's case) you have to dry it all out again in the oven or something. So this time, I bought the 'loose' cocofibre. It does work out a lot more costly, but then again, having your oven on for 4 or 5 hours drying a load of the other stuff makes it balance out really. What a funny and fabulous video!
Love that digbox and so does Norbert obviously. Does it have a solid base? Just wondering because i watched Norbert's tail disappear down a burrow. Is that coco fibre or something else coco? I've been looking to get some in reptile shops but am never quite sure which one is suitable for hamsters.
I've just found my order, I got it off amazon, here is the link :What a funny and fabulous video!

I don't think he is particularly big, but his hairy bum makes him look bigger! I would like to weigh him, mainly for his medical history notes for his veterinary records. He's still quite shy, but right now, Ive just had an idea.. If I put my small digital scales in his tank when he is scuttling around, he may just hop on them... Bob's your uncle! (IF he chooses to oblige, lol!) I fully agree about the broccoli, I didn't think at the time about how much that evil stuff can stink! I am doing regular sniff tests so hoping if it dioes start to rot before he's eaten what he's stored, I will smell it... I did remove the big chunk though after the video. (I throw a large, boiled chunk into my fish tank now and again as they love it, but oh boy, it HUMMMS the next day if they don't gobble it all down, and then it's a mega aquarium clean up! I will definitely try the treats you suggested, they sound a safer, less stinky way forward!I was wondering how you and Norbert were doing. It's a great video! He looks like a really large Syrian as well! Do you know how much he weighs? Probably best to wait till he's had his two weeks settling in time before weighing him anyway. As it would need to be during out of cage time. I use flatbed electronic scales with a treat on and they just walk on to them and sit and eat the treat, so you can read the weight and no man handling!
He is so excited about that broccoli lol! Just a tip - I tend to only give a very small piece - about thumbnail sized - with that sized piece they tend to eat it straight away. If they pouch a lot of it and hoard it then you need to check the hoard for rotten food! With a small piece they don't hoard it usually - it's small enough to be eaten straight away.
