My little companion, Hammy

I'll try and get some decent shots of her, if she keeps still long enough. She resting in her nesting box I brought her home in. She's not attempted to try the big hut downstairs yet

It's looking like she's going to sleep in the nesting box tonight that I brought her home in. She spent a little time in this evening, and it's some of her bedding from the shop in it.

Yes she'll probably decide where to nest tonight when she realises she's staying in the cage :-)

I've been watching my Hammy since I've got up this morning. She's discovered all her hides and main hut. She's been burrowing, which is something the other hammy never did. After using her wheel, she slept inside it for a couple of hours. She's a gentle eater. I've given her both a water bottle and bowl, but she hasn't discovered the bottle yet

Please to say, my new hammy seems to be settling in OK. I'm going to have to find a bigger box from somewhere for her sandbath. She has taken to it well. Hammy has also discovered her water bottle. Heard her using it last night and seen her using it this morning. Another plus for her, I've seen her tunneling to her hearts content and made the decision to remove all the stones. except the one which her water bowl sits on. I've now got to reposition her wheel somewhere, as she has chosen that side of the cage to do all her burrowing. Any suggestions please.

Little darling has worn herself out with all her burrowing work. She's just going to sleep where she came out. 🌜

I would leave the wheel where it is for now :-) She may change her mind a couple of times about where she's going to sleep and moving it will freak her out and cause some stress when she's settling in. She really is very sweet.

Thank you. It's not as heavy as the stones I took out, I was just a little concerned about her burrowing under it.

Is it standing on anything? You could either stand it on a platform or tie the stand to the bars so it won't sink. I've sometimes tied the stand to the bars. Or if it's the wood one I think it is you can actually screw them upside down from the top :-)

It's not standing on anything. But I do have a piece of lightweight card I could put under it. The kind that is used on the back of photo frames. Yes it is wood.

I usually put the wheel in an area of the cage with low bedding so that it is just on the ground and can't be dug under.

She does look very sweet in those pictures. I have a bit of a soft spot for her already!

aw thank you. Over the last 2 days, she has been up at the same time as me. Early hours of the morning. I'm glad I got her so soon after losing my last hammy, shes been a great help in me getting over her passing. Watching her this morning, running on her wheel, digging in her sand box or seeing her emerging from under all the bedding after burrowing, and then just flopping down after all the energy she expended doing each activity, brought a smile to my face. Resting then getting back up to have another go.

She's lovely - such a lovely colour too :-) It's great she's so friendly.
