My hamster lost a toe!

My hamster really seems to be thriving in the Bucatstate enclosure, but sometimes climbs all over the place, especially after being outside the cage.
All seems safe in there but one morning I noticed he was sitting awkwardly. Turns out his toe got caught in the front door of the enclosure while climbing.
When I opened it up and released him he ran back in his den, but today I managed to investigate.
Looks like the toe is gone:( how serious is this? I read posts that they can survive ok with a missing toe, but I'm worried about infection:

Loss of a toe isn't too serious but I would recommend taking him to a vet for some painkillers and possibly antibiotics if the vet feels they are necessary. Infection is a possibility and it's probably also very painful for him.

Hopefully it will heal quickly and he will feel better soon.

It looks like the toe is purple and swollen. It might just be inflammation but could also be infection so I think he needs to see a vet very soon.

Oh my goodness, a whole toe, not just a toenail. It is possible he chewed his toe off if he got stuck. They can do things like that. I agree you need to take him to the vet (they'll probably prescribe antibiotics at least) or infection can get into his system. That is very frustrating if there's an issue with the door - you'll need to check it out and see if any adjustment can be made.

Good thing you noticed. Hope you manage to get to a vet soon. That swollen toe does look sore. Bless him.

Poor Eddie, he has been in the wars. That's really worrying if the cage is unsafe and can cause injuries. Yes, he needs to see the vet who can assess the wound and give him meds. I hope the injured toes heal quickly.
