I do see the idea, but it's still recommended to have a hamster in a securely closed enclosure overnight. I would worry about them having that kind of free access overnight if I wasn't there to keep an eye on things. On the other hand if the enclosure was inside a secure playpen, then maybe but a playpen can still be scaled somehow. As I say, Tino managed to escape a bucket ............. Also if they do get on the loose, they can keep hiding and it's a worry if it goes on for days and you don't know where they are. One owner eventually found her hamster trapped behind a piece of furniture, where the hamster had died trying to get out again.

I will get him back in I am really pleased with the playpen though, before he had the wheel he didn’t want to stay in it. He tried so hard to climb up the panels but it’s not possible they are to slippery. They also can’t chew as there is no place where they can gat a grasp. It was really worth it. I am glad to have the cage on wheels on the ground in future though. It won’t. Be so high to lift him out and cleaning will be easier. Now I have to stand on a small step. I will maybe keep the old cage for emergency ( hoping will not occur)

It might be better just to put up with the tantrums. It does pluck at your heart strings, but he has a nice safe cage and a wonderful wheel and lots of tunneling material. It won't harm him to go back inside when you are off to bed. Tough love

Yes it always surprises me why he chooses to make his bed there. Sometimes he wakes up and watches me. I think he likes to know what’s going on

I guess he is he has slept there from the first day I had him. My mum says he nosey, has to check everything

I am proud to announce Nibbles got out this evening at 7.00 to go to his sand bath / toilet!
The first time ever he has done that. he’s growing up.
He went back to bed and got up at 8.45 for his playtime.
