Slight kerfuffle here. Last night I was about to get Raffy out for his evening roam and I heard a noise. Raffy heard the noise too and looked up. I turned round and saw a mouse run under the tv cupboard. So no way was I letting Raffy out! Mouse trap was set and was caught this morning but I'm going to have to clean all Raffy's playpen toys on the floor. I'm still wondering if the noise was the mouse on the flying saucer! And have a big clean up and hoover up too. There may be more than one of course, so will need to leave traps down for a few days. Raffy will go stir crazy if not out for a few days, so I'm thinking up a plan - possibly another room for a few days - if I can organise that.

Oh no! Luckily you managed to catch the mouse. I hope you set it free as far away from your house as possible to prevent it coming back.

I could not help but laugh at the thought of the mouse using the flying saucer wheel!

Raffy free roaming in a different room sounds like a good plan.

Any ideas where the mice are coming in? I know it can be hard to figure out sometimes.
Maybe leave a flying saucer outside for them!

We've had it before and it's usually field mice that get in from outside. This one looked big for a field mouse, from what I saw. It's an old house. I'm not aware of holes where they could get in but there could be some behind plasterboard maybe and once behind the plasterboard they can get around from one place to another.

I was also quite amused at the idea that the mouse may have wanted to use the playpen toys! While at the same time being horrified for Raffy. It will mean a bit hoover and clean up in case there are any mouse droppings anywhere (particularly behind the TV as Raffy likes to go there).

I'm sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but we don't use the humane traps any more. I haven't found them that humane to be honest. Imagine a hamster trapped in a plastic box for hours, unable to get out. I think it's the same for mice. Some of them die of heart attacks in the humane traps. Also it means taking them such a long way from the house. Apparently if it's less than a mile away, they just home back again.

We have an electronic rat trap we've used before, and I think that's about as humane as we can get it, it's instant and they don't know anything about it. And sometimes you just have to stop things getting out of hand if they're breeding in the house. Especially with hamsters in the house. I don't like the idea but wild mice carry diseases. Particularly tyzers disease which can be very harmful to hamsters. Obviously though it needs great care using that with hamsters in the house as well. So it's only put down and set up at night when the hamsters are both securely in their cages, and then switched off and taken up again next morning.

It works every time though. Chocolate spread inside it.

I had mice in the walls once, my walls are only lathe & plaster so they made a hell of a racket & seemed to be everywhere at once!
They can get in what might look like just a crack to us & I spent ages going round outside filling every little gap I could find, nothing since but it was quite a job.

We've had them before, but it's usually upstairs. We did have one in the kitchen once. First time I've seen one in the living room before though!

Also, apparently mouse droppings are only infectious for about four days, so there will be less risk for hamsters in a couple of days time, but will still do a clean up anyway.

So no more mice caught downstairs for the last two nights. But there is one in the bedroom upstairs! It sounded like it was playing football with something! They do make a racket sometimes. They can probably move around the house quite easily behind plasterboard and under floorboards etc, so we'll just have to keep going and will move the trap upstairs for now.

I hope you can find the mouse soon. Funny how loud they can be. I wonder what they get up too.

When we had chickens we were never totally free of mice cute little beggers but my o/h had to exterminate them regularly they got into the chicken food in their feeder and also the shed hated the smell of them too.
