Tell me about it! So unfair. Something I didn't expect at all.

I'm glad you spent some time with Molly. Sorry to hear you had another asthma attack.

I'm sorry to hear you had another asthma attack but it does confirm why you just cannot keep Molly I suppose its even worse because you never expected to react to her but people can have dogs for years and don't get allergies with them then change to a different breed and wham it can cause very severe reactions very quickly. My husband was very sensitive to one of our dogs fur but not the other and they were the same breed but different coats nothing serious like asthma thank goodness but he did scratch a lot

I will start a separate thread on this at some point, but this is the research showing russian dwarf hamsters have a specific allergen that is different from other species of hamster. And those tested, tested positive to dwarf hamsters but not to Syrians. In a way this could be reassuring for some that if they are allergic to one species, they may not be to another. Thankfully most people aren't allergic to any hamsters. They refer to Siberian hamsters rather than dwarf hamsters, but technically that is a winter white hamster.

Thank you. Not the greatest evening obviously. I think I’ll close the thread now. She will be safely with someone she knows tomorrow.

Just an update to leave things on a positive note. The fosterer has been for Molly and is lovely - she had a bit of time with her and Molly walked onto her hand so there was a bit of transition time. But also Molly was born in her house and she hand tamed her so she is going somewhere familiar. She went with a few favourite things from her cage and some of her bedding/nesting.

It’s not been easy but I think today went really well and I’m sure she’ll settle and have a nice time.

Thank you for the update. I am so pleased to hear everything went well. I hope you are okay.

It’s sad obviously but it was a positive experience and I know she is in good hands and will settle.

That does sound very positive for Molly, it is sad but at least you know now that she is in good hands & has every chance of being happy.

Thank you Frida - hugs much appreciated :-) I feel a bit pooped now.

I keep wondering how Molly is - I know she is in good hands and it can take a couple of weeks for adjustment though. I’ll let you know if there’s an update.

I had an update today and she’s doing fine - plus some interesting info. Apparently her sister has turned white and she and her brother are also lightening and they think it’s a winter white shed. I’d never have imagined her not being black any more! But as we know, hybrid dwarfs have both winter white and Campbells genes.

It’s good to know she’s doing well.
I find it hard to imagine her white too!

Apparently Molly is going to a new home at the end of December and will be living in a Linmon :) Glad she will have chance to settle and have a forever home.
