Just wanted to ask if there's a way to get my hamster dried mealworms. My hamster (Syrian 1 yr male) has never had live bugs but i've bought him dried meal worms for him to eat, but i don't know if he will. i tried to give them to him as a treat and even mixed it in with his regular food (to get the smell on ig?) but with many attempts i still come up unsuccessful.
should i try live worms or is there a diffrent way to try?

Some hamsters are not keen on mealworms. If he is not interested in them there is nothing to worry about. If you want to give him protein he may like a peanut in the shell to try and open it. My hamster likes walnut and pinenut.🙂

thank you, do you know if peanut butter is safe? i think i have a diy idea if so

You can give fresh but not live mealworms as they bite so you have to pinch the heads off first.

Peanut butter can get stuck in pouches so isn’t safe but plain unsalted peanuts & othe nuts are fine.

Hamsters love a peanut in a shell (aka monkey nuts). I usually break of a small bit at the end so they can get started, then they have great fun getting the peanuts out of the shell.

I'm guessing its the same with other nuts, being unsalted?

None of our Syrians liked mealworms but all our hamsters like a bit of hard boiled egg.

Not just nuts either, don’t give anything as a treat that has added salt.

Pete adores dried meal worms but he only gets them as a treat
