Day 1 arrived at his new home inspected it didn't show any negativity so presumably he isn't going to file a complaint. He then tunnelled into the substrate and I didn't see him for 48 hours

Day 2 heard him at 1 a.m on his wheel went quiet when I entered the room hopeing to see him didn't put light on too dark to see if he was still out.

Day 3 food from yesterday had disappeared put in a brief appearance around lunchtime did another 60 second reccey of his domain looked at me talking rubbish to him and disappeared into the substrate

Day 4 he came out around lunchtime again went for a wee and went back to bed bit like me at 4 a.m so I get that, then at 7.30 p.m he put in another appearance I thanked him profusely and he took an almond flake from me I was estatic

Day 5 it's 2.30 p.m and I haven't had the pleasure of his company yet but his food has gone and his toilet is wet so guess I must have missed his earlier cage inspection

Footnote: his HH came with a toilet which I put some bedding in that he'd travelling home in he didn't use it but I noticed one of the cardboard toilet roll tubes was wet I turned it round to be dry at the bottom and found he weed there again so I put the tube inside the plastic toilet compartment and so far I'm delighted to say he goes into the tube inside the plastic toilet seems to be potty trained until he decides different I suppose

It is wonderful Little Pete is already toilet trained. That is going to be so much easier for you. How lovely he took a flaked almond from your hand. I can imagine how happy you were. :)

Aw that's lovely - you must have been ecstatic when he took food from you :) . That's really good for day 5! By the time it's two weeks he should hopefully be more confident in his cage. Lovely update on Little Pete. Don't suppose you have a photo yet?! That's when nightcams can be good :)

Little Pete must really trust you already, taking food from your hand so soon. I don't think he'll complain to the hamster council about his home or slave. Hamsters are very clean so you'll need to keep his loo clean because if it gets too dirty he might file a complaint and toilet somewhere else in protest! Who knows what will happen then! 😂

Sorry only photo from day one while he was inspecting his new surroundings don't think a nightcam will be going on the shopping list although it would be lovely to see what he gets up to especially as I literally only get privileged few minutes a day at the moment

I'm sure we'll see him soon when he's out and about a bit more :)

Lovely to hear how little Pete is doing, it’s great that he trusted you enough to take a treat from your hand, I’m sure he’ll soon begin to make a bit more of an appearance when you’re around now.

Pete was already hand tamed by his breeder before I collected him but moving home can be quite stressful so he has regressed unfortunately he appears so seldom I don't really get many chances to continue the contact with him I read somewhere not to disturb when sleeping so just have to wait for him to make an appearance but he dosent stay out for more than a few minutes.

I'm sure he will in time. Everything is new at the moment.

Being hand tame by his breeder does not mean he will be hand tame as such as he will still need to build up a bond with you. This means him taking the flaked almond from you is very special. :)

I once rehomed a very lively and sociable hamster to a lady who is an animal behaviourist.
Hamster completely changed in his lovely new home and hid away. She hardly saw him.
I was surprised but the lady wasn't and said "different room different dog".
She gave him the time he needed to re adjust and spent time in the room setting up a freeroaming area for him with allsorts of interesting things. I took something from here along that had the smell of the other hamsters on it.
It took a while but he got nosy and interested and became himself again. A very lively and sociable hamster, easy to handle and into everything on offer.

It's so easy just to replace his toilet roll :)
