Is it normal for dawrf hamster's to itch a lot? I bought them at a pets store. I have notice a lot of itchiness with my pet hamsters. I Just wondered if scratching a lot is normal for hamster's? They look fine and their fur looks fine as well. All I notice is them itching themselves a lot, but other tan that, They seem fine.

Your robos will groom a lot - they do a lot of washing and scratching themselves is a normal part of grooming. Robos really need sand baths as well - they love rolling in their sand baths and grooming in them. If it was excessive scratching they would scratch themselves sore - so if that isn't happening, I wouldn't worry :-) Do they both have a sand bath?

Well I just added another item from amazon. I am going to buy the sand-bath along with hide out for my hamsters. I do not see any sores on my hammys, they must just be grooming themselves, they sure are clean little hammies.

You can use anything for a sand bath - an old ice cream tub eg or a cookie jar :-) Some of the little plastic ones on Amazon can be a bit small. With hideouts, they don't want to be too small either. Hamsters (even tiny robos) like to build big nests - larger hides allow them to fill it with a nice big cosy nest.

One of the best things you can give them in their bin is a big pile of torn up strips of plain white toilet paper - as well as the bedding. They will use that to make a nest. The more, the better! Also avoid anything like "fluffy bedding" that is sold for hamsters as that is dangerous.

It also needs to be the the right kind of sand - reptisand is fine if it is calcium free - but not anything described as "dust" - eg chinchilla dust.

Thank you for the tips. I will take a look around see what I have for my hammies for their sand bath hideouts. I have plenty of toilet paper and paper roll, so I will also add that to their new cage. The bedding I buy is paper bedding, which as far as I know, as long as it paper, that should work. The sand i bought
for hammie is made for hamsters and is dust free. I am going to go broke with buying all this stuff, but it is worth it to have happy hamsters. I took them to care for them, and give my hamsters the best ,that I have to give. I am doing my homework on hamster care.
