Edit: Resolved!

If you're using an apple device (iphone or ipad eg). Please check this thread below and see if posts 2, 3 and 4 display images or not?

Edit - already established they aren't viewable on apple devices - see below for updates!

I can’t see those particular photos on my iPad …but I can see lots of other pics, although not all 🤔 I don’t want to clear my history tho as I probably can’t remember all my passwords to sign in to everything again 😵‍💫

It’s only on certain threads, which is curious 🧐 At the moment I can’t see the photos on Blossom’s thread which I can usually see 🤔🧐

So…I had absolutely loads of pages open on my iPad, so I’ve closed a few and now can see Blossoms photos again, but not the ones on the thread you linked at the top 🤔

So do you think this is recent? ie something that has just happened? Or have you noticed it for a while? If it's recent it might help me pin things down a bit.

I think it’s only recent. I don’t recall seeing it before.

I'm discussing with server and techies to see if I can get to the bottom of it! Bear with me. It's fine on anything that isn't apple! But a lot of people use iphones and ipads and it needs sorting :-) Not quite sure who to blame yet :ROFLMAO: Either apple or the server have started doing something different I reckon.

So - it's not a server issue or a cloudflare issue. At the moment it looks like it's since Apple's last ios update and it's not rendering some images on some websites. Still getting advice on it :)

Ah..interesting

Looking into it!

Hopefully should be resolved by tonight :) A couple of months ago I removed all exif data from existing images as part of our risk assessment. It seems this may have removed certain image markers as well that Apple like to see but Windows and Android accept. So I'm batch reprocessing all the images to re-add this image marker (complicated). Then it should be all sorted.

At some point today, don't be surprised if all images disappear while they are being re-uploaded to the server :) It's temporary though.

Any new images uploaded in the past two months are ok - they automatically have exif data removed on uploading, via an addon, but that addon seems to do it in a way that keeps the image marker so the recent images are viewable on apple devices. What a palaver!

Exif data was/is removed from uploaded images for security.

Sounds super complicated…good job you’re tech savvy! My brain is fried with just reading this 😝

Well it's a new one on me! Removing that exif data a couple of months ago was a huge job" This is like doing it all over again - except I'm just reprocessing the files.

It's going to take longer than I thought as not every image is a photo - there is the odd pdf and gif thrown in there. I can't convert those so will just have to accept that in some older posts, the occasional pdf or gif won't show up for anyone using an apple device. If someone then lets me know they can't see something like that - if they happen to come across it - then I can just do that manually on the forum for the odd one. ie just re-upload it again. But the rest need batch processing.

Don’t worry, your iPad/iphone still has the passwords saved. You just won’t be automatically logged in. Since doing the cache clear, I’ve had to log into lots of sites again, but the iPad offers up the passwords.

You don't need to clear history or cookies or anything :-) It's being sorted on the site side so the images should display then :-) It might take a couple of days though ..............

Oh and don't worry about your images - there are three separate backups :-) The images are all there.

So - after downloading and reprocessing all the images (which worked on a test image) and re-uploading them all, it didn't work. More of the images were displaying on my iphone, but they were chopped in half with a large grey box at the bottom - and some images were still missing. They still all displayed perfectly fine on Windows! As all the images were reprocessed (it's not possible to separate the recent ones from the older ones in the server). So not only did reprocessing the images not work, but it also messed up all the newer images on iphones etc as well!

As such I've restored the image backup back to where it was before so at least the images from the last 2 months display ok.

For apple users this leaves the same problem as before at the moment: Any images from the past 2 months display fine. Any images older than that still have the space and question mark (some but not all).

This is going to take some thinking about to try and find a solution. It's a head scratcher!

I'm looking into possibilities of different image formats (but won't go into all the technical details as it gets boring). Virtually all the images on the site are jpegs which is a standard file format.

I'm sorry this didn't get fixed as it was a mammoth effort the last day or so! I'm having a breather from it for a day to get back to hamsters! But will keep looking into it.

Oh no! How frustrating 🤨😵‍💫 At least I can view everything on my android phone.

You could compare between that and your apple device (which is what I have been doing!). If you can be bothered 🤣 I could change some individual images on site but there are over a thousand!

I'm looking into options but they are all complicated - maybe apple will have an update soon!
