How much itching is normal?

Orko seems to scratch himself a lot. When I did his health check his fur looked perfect to me but I know mites are not visible to us. I do not know if his scratching is normal for hamsters or not. He pauses on his MCH to scratch and then carries on running about. I do not know if his scratching is okay or something that needs to be treated.

It's perfectly normal :-) Hamsters groom and scratch a lot. If it was anything unusual they would scratch themselves sore and have bare patches of fur usually with sore skin.

What a huge relief! He is constantly washing himself and I wondered about that too. Thank you so much. I am only used to guinea pigs and they rarely scratch.

Many owners worry that their hamster scratches so much but it's quite normal. If it was excessive scratching, you'd know about it :)

I agree with Maz but know what you mean. Dwarfs and Robos seem to scratch and wash a lot more than Syrians. Syrians almost include grooming into their routine but dwarfs are so random.
Dwarfs stop mid activity to have a quick scratch or wash which is quite amusing. I watched Lilly zoom around last night, then she suddenly pulled the brakes on for a two second wash and zoomed off again. Try figure, lol.
Anything like mites you would be aware of.

Thank you Beryl. I had no idea they scratch and groom so much. As a first time hamster guardian it looks worrying. How cute Lilly stopped like that. Lol.
