How much fresh fruit & veg?

Hi all,

Was just wondering, how much fresh veg & fruit do you feed your Syrians? There’s so much mixed info - from only a thumbnail sized amount a few times a week to daily! I’ve been adopting daily but wondering if I give too much? (Attached is image of average amount I give. I change up what I give a bit, sometimes there’s a bit of bell pepper, or cucumber, banana, blueberry, sweetcorn, etc. but this is a pretty standard daily amount.

There seems to be no problem on the poop front, they’re solid as they should be (again reference pic of some mixed in with Rory’s stash I found the other week when doing a clean) and I’ve had him 5 weeks and this has been every single day since he came, but no harm in checking! Want to make sure it’s okay and won’t cause any problems down the line

It's on our safe food guide Ideally a piece no bigger than your hamster's ear each day. The reason being - they really eat very tiny amounts. If they have too much they'll probably just hoard it and it'll go rotten - plus they only need a tiny bit each day. I vary it - cucumber one day, broccoli the next, cauliflower or baby corn sometimes. Peas are ok as well (I give two peas as they are small!). Fruit is ok occasionally for a Syrian but not for other species. Fresh fruit is better as dried fruit usually contains preservatives which don't always have to be described on the label.

The main photo shows a hamster with a bigger piece of veg! But I struggled to find a good photo. In the article itself it shows a hamster with a piece of broccoli about ear-sized!

Some hamsters might eat more if you give them more but it's not necessarily good for them and not necessary.

Thanks Maz! So strange because I looked through that guide for info on the amount yesterday and didn’t spot it. I was on my laptop and today on my phone so I must have not looked properly yesterday, sorry!

Okay so I’m definitely giving waay too much then! Funnily enough, I didn’t see any fresh food in his hoards so he must be eating them straight away or at least quickly - what a smart little guy who knows about food waste

He’ll be heartbroken with the downgrade I’m sure but just because it hasn’t done anything to his stomach/poop yet, I’m not willing to take the chance!
