My sweet syrian, Casper, passed away recently and I have basically a full bag of food in my freezer. How long can I keep it in there? It is double-bagged in freezer bags, if that matters.

I'm so sorry you have lost Casper, big hugs. I'm not sure of the exact answer to this, I tend to go with it being OK in the freezer for 6 months - maybe up to a year but after 6 months the contents may start to deteriorate. Having said that, there is also a use by date on most bags of hamster food, and I don't think freezing extends the life particularly. It's really intended just to kill any bugs. So I don't think once it's defrosted it extends the life, so I would stick with used by date on the bag, however long you have it in the freezer. Some bags of hamster food already have over a year before they reach expiry date.
