As it was coming up to Christmas (expecting more visitors than usual) and Petes cage had never had a "deep clean " I decided to refresh his bedding this is what I found is this an unusual amount of hording I left it in situ but also found the same amount at the opposite end of his cage I'm thinking maybe I should have taken it all out and replaced with fresh but it didn't seem soft or anything wrong with it and I still put new food in his bowls every day

BTW he remade his tunnels was quite busy for about an hour after the bedding change (some of it smelt scent marked) but it did upset him in the slightest

It should read didn't upset him not did

That looks quite normal to me & they do usually have more than one hoard.
If it gets too huge I sometimes remove or refresh a bit of it but otherwise as long as it hasn’t been peed on I leave it alone.
Good to hear he was happily remaking his tunnels after & not bothered by the clean.

Mine is the same too. I'm sure I'm much more anxious about doing the deep clean than my hamster is!
