Hamster shopping

I like Hopes healthy treats, Henry Hamster Homes, Rodipet and Etsy.

I live in Wiltshire so can nip over to Porton Aquatics near Salisbury. I go there mainly for 85l bags of Kaytee and Rosewood Pick n' Fly millets.

I frequent small independent pet shops in my area because they have a good variety of hamster items, vary their stock and most don't sell hamsters so i prefer to support those businesses rather than a large pet shop chain.

Reptile shops are good for cork tunnels, coco soil, aspen and beech chips etc.

The pet section in some garden centres is also worthwhile checking out.

Pets Corner is pricy but has some good quality hamster stuff and they sell a large cage. Jolleys is another pet shop i go to as neither of these two pet shops sells hamsters.

There is plenty of online shopping like Hope's healthy treats other members will know more about than me as i rarely shop online.

Next time I'm passing a reptile shop I'll have a look.

The bird section of pet shops is also worth checking out for millet. I buy yellow and red millet in the bird section of a pet shop.

And the dog section for Whimzees.
Albert loves millet and whimzees. I've not seen any red millet for sale locally.

I buy the red millet in a small independent pet shop called Paradise Pets but haven't seen it anywhere else.

I do most online as we live out in the sticks. Now Zooplus is virtually defunct I tend to use Amazon for some things and various online stores for others. I also like Rodipet for their houses and cork logs (which are generally good quality and cut to the right size for hamster cages!). But they are expensive. I like their multiroom houses for syrians and dwarf hamsters though.

I have had the odd thing from Hope's Healthy treats as well - they sell the hyacinth tunnels that are often not available on Amazon these days.

Rat rations can be useful as well - I get hanging sputniks from there as they're cheaper than Amazon and you can choose the colours.

Sometimes working out good brands is as important as finding the shops to buy from. Rosewood naturals are usually a safe bet for toys and edible treats.

Hamster food I'm actually buying on ebay and from vetsend now, as I get the dwarf specific Bunny Dream Dwarf hamster expert - which is a very good mix - but it's hard to get hold of since Zooplus stopped shipping to the Uk.

This is Rodipet - be warned - it's addictive! They sell a lot less than they used to but at least they still ship to the Uk. One downside is the cost of postage which is usually about £8. However it's the same cost whether you buy one item or multiple or larger heavier items. A standard cost. So some people get a few things in one go (which can hurt your bank balance!)

I dont think it was that much when I bought it recently - you have to watch Amazon as their prices go up and down a lot and change every few days.
