That's a great update :) So pleased he's fine. The bedding suggestion seems a bit unusual but maybe bedding could stick to the wound. I think cardboard on the base would be safer than a towel - hamsters chew things. He'll need a good shelter or he'll feel veryexposed. If his wound seems dry in the next day or so I'd give him some bedding.

You could maybe put nesting material out at least - torn up strips of plain white toilet paper. You'd definitely need to keep the room at a warm temperature if he has no bedding! How does his wound look?

I'm not familiar with Meloxydil but check the dose carefully, which is what we usually do with Loxicom/Metacam. If it's something like 0.03 mls then it needs the right marking on the syringe - ie not 0.3mls. And don't be afraid to check the dose with the vet.

Really pleased to hear it all went well, I hope he has a speedy recovery now.
Baby food is th easiest way to give medication, some people also use a tiny bit of meaty dog food too but I’ve found they take it fine in baby food.
I’ve never heard of not having bedding at all in a hospital cage but I guess it could get caught up in the wound, I would keep a close eye out for chewing tough if he has fabric instead.

Lovely update. Made me smile that he started eating as soon as he came round. He's a fighter. 🐹💕
