Yes I agree. I don't feed Albert any fruit. I also thought the garlic and onion is questionable. The only thing is, I think that list is aimed at Syrians so I would not feed the fruit to a dwarf hamster. I tried zooming in on that list but could not make out all the words. My eyesight is terrible!
I just went to the website to check the list. I personally would not feed garlic or onion in baby food although I know they say it is okay now.
When I read the study, they did an experiment with 35 hamsters. For me, this is not a big enough study to determine if garlic and onion is safe. I am also assuming the study was done on Syrian hamsters too.Yes I agree. I don't feed Albert any fruit. I also thought the garlic and onion is questionable.
I notice it is more common to feed poppy seeds in Germany. There are also different safe and unsafe hamster foods in different countries. I personally go by the German lists but some people in the UK feel the German lists can be too extreme.I can't see poppy seeds on the list. I know some dwarf hamster food include poppy seeds. Albert loves poppy seeds.
Just checked and German food list says it is safe.Is it safe to give Albert a small piece of courgette?
I got a cauliflower today. I'm going to try Albert with a small piece later.
Thank you Rainbow. Have you got a link to the German food list you use?Just checked and German food list says it is safe.
Is that why only tomato flesh is safe for hamsters?Quite a few vegetables are fruits, anything seed bearing is a fruit but they’re not all high in sugar like the things we normally consider a fruit & tend to be higher in fibre too which slows the release of natural sugars.
Sorry about that. I did not think anybody had seen it as I edited it quickly. No tomato seeds are toxic, I think the skin maybe or just isn;t easy for them to digest.
That post looks a bit odd but I replied to Rainbows post before she changed it!
