Could it be he just did not feel like going in his playpen? Any change can be a bit stressful for hamsters but I am sure he will get used to the lovely new items you have put in his playpen.

Sadly, Gumtree is full of adverts like that. Hopefully somebody will rescue them and give them a loving home.

He will get used to it and then he will love the space. You could always add a few cardboard hides if you think it will help to make him feel safe.

I totally understand that. I had to stop looking at all those sites as the adverts are really sad.

Yeah, he will.he did manage over an hour. He ate a seed, then I couldn't get him out his wheel. I'll get some boxes today for him..

Does he let you know when he wants to leave his playpen? My hamster does just what Grommit did by going to the sides and standing up. I then know it is time to take him out.

Good idea. There are quite a few of those sites and unless you are able to take one of the hamsters I think it is too upsetting to look at them.

Normally when he wants to get out he goes to his taxi tube( the one we move him in) he seemed to feel better in his wheel. So we let him run

I think Grommit seems fine . He’s checking things out and scent marking, which is all quite normal. After the next time or two it’ll all be familiar and have his scent. He was washing his paws on the wheel abd they do that to help with scent marking too

He does actually transfer his selections to his playpen now, which he didn't before. I think it might be because he is more relaxed now! He has a tunnel which always has some micro sausages in it.
