Oh I am so sorry. He was such a beautiful boy and such a young age. It's heartbreaking when they are so young. I am so sorry for your loss

It sounds like something was wrong, and sadly some hamsters are born with genetic issues that aren't obvious - a weak heart or some internal problem. It can happen, mostly with pet shop hamsters due to unknown breeding, but it can also just be one of those things.
Opi is playing free over the rainbow bridge now, free from pain, and he was lucky to have such a loving caring owner and lovely home during his short life. It's just so very hard for you. They leave a big hole in our hearts, and in time that heals and we just remember the happy moments. But it takes time. I've linked our bereavement article for you which might help. I once contacted the Blue Cross bereavement service myself (which is linked) and they really helped. A sudden death like that is quite traumatic.
Please don't let it put you off having a hamster. You may not feel like thinking about another one just yet, but if and when you do, it can help to choose one from a rescue or a verified breeder (with the National Hamster council uk or California Hamster Association US). They know the genetics of their hamsters. With rescues the genetics are still unknown, but they are thoroughly checked and have vet treatment and I always think if a hamster has survived being rescued and is healthy, they must have strong genes.
It can help when you've had a little memorial or burial service and once you've cleaned and put away the cage can help as well. If it feels too hard to deal with the cage straight away, then I've sometimes put a blanket over it until I feel ready. That does two things 1) It's a sign of respect 2) It makes it less raw the cage being there so you don't see the familiarity and expect them to be there. Then when the moment feels right, cleaning and putting things away out of sight really helps.
Play well over the Rainbow Bridge little Opi - you will have plenty of friends there, among our departed hamsters also
Big hugs to you
