Have made a few adjustments to the forum and server, so people can upload photos on here directly from their phones and the forum will resize the file size automatically.

  • Maximum of 12mb for a file (it's unlikely photos on phones will be any bigger but if they are you'll need to resize manually again)
  • Photos might take very slightly longer at the upload stage as the file sizes are bigger - if this becomes a problem you might still need to resize manually rather than wait.
  • Photos from phones have that long look (longer than they are wider) which is fine but sometimes part of the screen is just wasted space and the photos can be easier to see if they're more a square shape sometimes. So it could be an idea to crop any photos if possible and if necessary before uploading - just so they're easier to see - not essential though. As an example - if you have the hamster quite small in the top or bottom third of the screen and the bottom two thirds are just carpet, then cropping out the bottom half will make the hamster display bigger/better and avoid having to scroll down past carpet to see the hamster!
Also please use the upload facility for photos rather than pasting links to other sites to embed them, as ongoing this could cause issues.

When I say it might take a little longer for a photo to upload - we're still only talking seconds really :)

I always resize my photos on my phone before uploading them directly onto here.
Shall i continue to do that or would it be better for this site to resize them?

You can do whichever you wish :-) I know some people have difficulty working out how to resize photos, so this option means you don't have to do it first. Maybe try out just uploading them and see what you prefer. I had a try out on an unseen thread and it works fine.

If you continue to resize them yourself then it just means the forum software won't need to resize them and they will upload probably quicker - so maybe try it out and see what you prefer.
