Getting new little addition tomorrow xx

I am soo excited as I am picking up a new little addition tomorrow from my friend who rescues hamsters and last week had 6, 7 week old little grey fuzz-balls in.
Spent last night getting Gizmo’s tank all set up and ready for tomorrow - just got to put in substrate and bedding for him/her when I get home from work.
No idea what sex I am going to have - as long as they are fit and healthy, I am happy.
It’s now been just over a month since Gizmo passed away - and I hate seeing an empty enclosure, so when my friend and I were talking - I knew it was time to pop over there tomorrow to see which one I like.
Can’t wait - will update this tomorrow xx

He/She is Dwarf hamster as I’ve got a serious soft spot for them - so when my friend phoned last week to say some had been handed in to her - it just feels like the right time for a new one and they are in need of a new home and new start xx

Well...so far the morning has been a game of two halves.

First things first - little Rebel is now home. He's just turned 8 weeks old. He is a little fiesty and did a fair amount of screaming (hence the name), when we transferred him into the carrier, but soon settled on the journey home.

When I got him home though, I opened the tank door (Exo Terra 90x45x45cm) - the door fell off in my hand and a large crack across the side panel. Cue emergency panic stations as now can't use that tank...Rebel is unfortunately now in a temporary smaller Exo Terra (45x45x60cm) until I can afford a new tank (probably a Buscaste 2.0 - like my gerbil girls). Thankfully, I have managed to sort it out so he still has digging space, hidey holes, platform, bowl, water bottle, wheel etc - so that will have to do for now.

When the door broke off, I got cut by the glass, but thankfully only a shallow one and no glass inside - so just got a giant plaster on my hand.

I'm just glad that I had the spare tank (even though it's not ideal), as otherwise he would have had to live in the carrier lol.

I've given him an hour or so to settle down and he has been exploring everything, had a wash and even pouched some sunflower hearts and had a drink of water as well - and seems to be cautiously curious than he was when I originally picked him up.

Oh poor you - I hope the cut isn’t too bad. It sounds stressful though - just when you’ve got an enclosure set up.

He looks adorable . Tino was a squawker when he was a baby too.

Thanks Maz - I'm just glad that Rebel wasn't already in the tank when the door broke off and the glass cracked - as it was an almighty loud crack and bang. Also glad I hadn't got rid off the smaller Exo Terra - so at least he is safe and sound now. I have had the larger Exo for about 10 years now - so it's probably just got to the end of its useful life.

Now just got to start saving for a new tank xx

Thank you - have to admit it’s very sore now but it’ll heal.

Well Rebel’s already hoovered up the mealworm and sunflower seeds I left him as a welcome treat. He also came up to the front of the tank and watched me as I was talking gently to him.

Mum and Dad have also seen him and love the name Rebel as well lol.

Hoping this will be the start of a lovely little friendship between us xx

Funnily enough - Rebel’s name isn’t on my name list lol . When he started squeaking like crazy my friend said to him “Looks you’re going to be quite the little rebel, aren’t you?” The name just stuck lol xx
