I find these quite tasty and they go well with cheese, but I bought them to avoid sugar, thinking if they are for gerbils they must be safe. However the second ingredient on the list is sugar. I have given Socks a few and he loves them, but I think we will go back to monkey nuts and sugar free options.

It is good you read the ingredients. I find a lot of pet treats seem to contain sugar. Socks may like a pine nut. My hamster enjoys one. :)

I like the yippees :). Or rather the hamsters really like them. They also have a bit of sugar in but maybe not as much as the ones you’ve mentioned as it’s not as high in the ingredients list. Also occasionally give one of the vitastix (honey and spelt) chew stick. Honey is still sweet of course. Sugar isn’t so much of an issue for Syrians although they can still get tooth decay!

There are an awful lot of treats out there that are full of sugar, it’s good you checked, best to read the ingredients with everything to be on the safe side.

Personally I don’t give any treats with sugar or honey & that is only partly because I keep diabetes prone species, no healthy small animal needs sugar, it really isn’t good for them & not just their teeth, there are so many natural healthy options for treats I think it’s far better to stick to those.

I also give pumpkin seeds as treats and they’re popukar, another natural treats. They like gnawing on the yippees - but then they like gnawing on dandelion root too. I’d draw the line at the very sugary treats like some types of yoghurt drops etc

The pumpkin seeds weekly order has doubled owing to my developing quite a taste for them. Sunflower seed is going on the menu (with and (for me) without the shell) and linseeds have turned out to be quite nice. The monkey nuts are a staple now!
