Hi, here is my new hamster, Fuzzy Wuzzy, at first the place said it was a he, but over few weeks looks like a female, no back package.

Gorgeous hammy He/she might surprise you yet! I had a male that didn't appear to have male back end at all - for quite a long time -then it appeared Best way to check is if he/she has nipples ..............

Yes it's not easy and you don't want to stress Fuzzy Wuzzy out trying to do that too soon. With my slightly uncertain one I waited until he started having out of cage time and let him walk into a plastic rat tube as a taxi to lift him out. The idea being I could hold the tube up a bit temporarily while someone took a photo underneath. That didn't work, It upset him and also I still couldn't see a thing from the photo as he was so furry underneath! Similarly some people let them walk into a large glass jug and then look underneath when the hamster stands on their back paws. Still hard to tell without holding them and feeling!

Anyway there's no rush to find out Fuzzy wuzzy is a neutral name. Main thing is he/she gets used to you and settles in and feels confident
