One of these days i'm going to get a lovely clear photo of Finley when he's not in a huff and hopefully it will be this year.

Finley is now around 17 months old and he came from an adoption tank. He had lost his home because his young human got fed up with him.

I tried my best to find him a lovely forever home with a big and well enriched enclosure but nobody wanted him. So now he's stuck with us.

He doesn't seem to mind as long as we leave him alone but will squeak very loudly and angrily when removed from his tank.. He tolerates my OH because he's never touched him or any of his belongings.

Finley is the messiest hamster i've ever met so i have to tidy up small sections of his tank sometimes. Clean his toilet, sieve his sand and exchange his smelly wheel with a clean one. I leave him without a wheel for all of 30 secs because i've bought him two identical wheels but he still goes in his obs hide and sulks for days.

He tolerates me only when i don't talk, move, look or breathe. Ideally, not exist.

I can get nice photos of him when he's busy and i'm far enough away but it's like wildlife photography trying to get a picture of Finley.

Here are two photos. One from today when i exchanged his wheel and a photo to proof that he is a beautiful Robo when he's not grumpy.

Beautiful Finley! Getting any pictures in daylight is something to celebrate. 😀

Aw. He sounds a real character. I wonder if he is resisting bonding with a human after losing one. I am sure he does have a bond with you but is guarding himself. And is maybe just grumpy after his upheavals in life. I had to laugh at you saying he was the messiest hamster! I thought our robo was a bit messy (with food - scattering it about) but then one day I found a very neat, quite large, pile of sunflower seeds on top of his house. I am not sure what this means! Does this means - I am sick of sunflower seeds so I've put them here so you can see I don't need any more? Or does it mean - I don't like them so I've left them here? Or is it just he wants to keep them handy?

I don't think that Finley is such a deep thinker.

He's one like Ozzy who prefers his own company.

I cracked a few walnuts the other day and gave the hamsters a half each to get the nut out themselves.
Just saw Finley working on his and got a rare photo. He must have been engrossed not to notice me.

Must be my lucky day because i got another photo of Finley nibbling on his whimzee.

He's so much bigger than Scottie.

Well done for getting the photo. It is so lovely to see Finlay engrossed with his walnut. Another picture! I notice robos can be like that. Never come out then come out suddenly.

Great photos of Finley. When I first saw “I cracked a few walnuts the other day” I thought you were posting as Finley 😊. Some people do that sometimes. Hamster diary literally!

Haha, no i didn't but you just gave me an idea....

Finley must have thought (or hoped) i had gone to work already and came out for a drink from his tiny bowl.

Aww this picture made me smile. He looks like he is trying to camouflage himself there.

My OH just told me that last night, when he put the fresh food in, he got a heck of a fright when something run across his hand!

He said that he hadn't seen Finley when he took the lid off the tank so Finley must have been very camouflaged.

I've had that before too! Not sure who jumped the most - me or the robo!

It's always good to know that Finley is alive and well. I just watched him until he became aware of me and disappeared.

I just cleaned/checked one half of Finley's tank and took him out for a health check.

As expected, he squeaked the place down but calmed down as soon as he was back in his tank.

His nails and teeth are fine and i couldn't feel any lumps or bumps. I forgot to weigh him. The fur under his chin is thinning but i've seen this in quite a few dwarfs as they got older. Finley is around 1.5 yrs old going by the information i was given when i adopted him.

I gave him his fresh food now and changed his water so i don't have to disturb him again.

Aww, sweet Finley. I always look forward to his updates. It is good you have done a health check and know he is well. I wonder if some tofu will help him to forgive you.
