He has such an enriched crib he must love foraging in there he looks very intelligent on the first photo looking straight at you

Thank you! He loves rummaging around and climbing on his branch 🐹

That's a fantastic set up for him. I bet he loves it :) A tip with adding photos is to make sure the cursor is under the lining of typing before adding the photos (so the writing stays at the top) and if you click on the uploaded thumbnals and select insert image, the full photo displays in the post. I've inserted the photos for you :)

Ohhh ok thank you 🤣 I just joined earlier today so thanks for the advice 👍

Any tips as to how you set his cage up? :-) It could be helpful for others to know how you started and what you added next etc. Especially re the forage and sprays.

I started with the bedding (of course) which is 10 inches deep at max then I added the wheel, submerged the hides and the sand bath a bit, added nesting material and paper bedding, added the branches and tunnels then sprinkled some forage 😁 I added the sprays in last and made sure they were at an ok height for him (also remember to put a water bowl on a solid surface if you have one to prevent the bedding getting wet and potentially growing mold or anything)

You make it sound so simple but it looks very creative :) It is maybe the coco bark that adds that extra natural look as well.

Yeah I was going for a natural look as I don’t like the tacky look of coloured plastic things if you know what I mean 🤣

I have a bit of both in my syrian's cage :ROFLMAO: I call it the eclectic look. The bottom half is natural plus a plastic rat tube and a rat sputnik (which is a muted colour). But that's in a barred cage and the plastic bits are his roof run. But yes lots of bright coloured plastic isn't a good look and less chewable.

Hahahah yeah lol my brothers is a mix of both too, some plastic things like the niteangel wheels and bucatstate sand baths look really nice too

Wow! Looks so enriching for your hamster! Where did you buy your tank? And what have you used for the lid ?
Hello and welcome to the forum. OP has not been online for a while so may not see your message.

I just thought I would let you know Jungle pets do tanks like this and come with a mesh lid. 😊

Hello! Sorry, I haven’t updated you guys but I made the cage myself and for the lid I cut a hole into a wood plank and screwed on acrylic. I’ll insert some pics :)

I’ve since changed bedding and added more enrichment and a much bigger wheel as well

It's a fantastic set up. And welcome Mrs C. Unfortunately the lid doesn't give enough ventilation. It would need to be all mesh apart from the wood surround, to give enough ventilation. Hamsters are very prone to respiratory infections and need very good ventilation. 1cm square mesh is quite easy to fix to a wood frame and a hardware store would cut it to the size you want.

I have created gaps in the side for better ventilation and have raised the lid slightly so hopefully that helps. I’ll look into the mesh too 👍
