Hi everyone!

The day is finally here. Cowboy AND Neptr are in their 120x60cm PLATSA’s!

I had initially bought a 115cm PawHut for Cowboy, but never got round to building it. Then, I had to move so scrapped the idea entirely. I thought I’d wait for the 120cm Bucatstate, but I heard from a few people it was very wobbly when stacked, so scrapped that too.

I didn’t want to downsize neptr, who has always lived in his platsa, so my partner has built this phenomenal cage!!

I am so chuffed with the result. Having only moved in about a week ago, I haven’t gotten around to getting the cage completely full. But, it will happen in due course! I’ve spent SO much money, so many problems have popped up (I.e; stupidly shipping £50 worth of sprays to the wrong house, amongst other idiotic things I’ve done with my scrambled moving brain) so they willl be waiting a bit before I can dedicate more money to their enclosures.

I’ll be posting their enclosure setups on their dedicated threads but thought I’d pop this here as I’ve never actually seen a double platsa cage before, and thought it would be good for people if their wondering if it’s possible!

Bit of information/specifics about this cage:

  • PLATSA 120x60x55
  • Hinges & screws from B&Q
  • Mesh 6ft roll, 1cm spacing
  • Baby locks 4 pack
  • CutMyPlastic for the acrylic

Extra Notes ;;
  • The mesh had to be sanded at the corners as it is sharp. Not even a fraction was used, but couldn’t find a smaller roll!
  • The acrylic was bought cut to different sizes. As we bought for multiple acrylics, we got acrylic cut to 120x35cm (2x) and 120x23cm (2x)

Great! Are they stacked then?

They look amazing! That is a great way for you to save space. I really love the cage set ups too. They look like works of art!

Yes! They’re drilled together so not shifting at all. It was always the plan to have them stacked!

Thank you so much! The boys don’t seem to agree as they’ve done some major redecorating for these photos. My beech chip pathways have long since been buried!

The set ups are lovely. So do they both have front opening doors?

Yes! But both are different, which is why o didn’t want to specify in the first post.

The top cage is my original Platsa. I built it because I watched a video of someone building it without power tools, which I had no access to.

That one has an aprox. 20cm door that folds towards the floor. That’s a new addition done to a new wall of acrylic. My original platsa had 8mm acrylic which is way too thick (& way more expensive). The new one is 5mm. The difference doesn’t sound huge but the cage looks flawless now.

It also has its original top opening lid, that covers 120x60cm, though it also has some overhang. We initially decided to drill it, but that changed the height and therefore the pre ordered acrylics too short. It also makes more sense at that height to have a top opening lid.

The one below is SO MUCH BETTER. Mainly because I wasn’t in charge of the DIY. But that one is a front opening only. I think if anyone is to recreate this, they need to ensure that the acrylic door needs to be bigger than the width of a wheel/sandbath/other large object in the cage. Ours has a bit of wiggle room, but to remove the sand bath is a nightmare amongst the bedding.
