No not hamster cookies unfortunately!
Just to let people know the cookie banner has changed and has more options. It's annoying as it now fills half the screen on a mobile! Usually the first time you visit the page.
But there aren't any google analytics or anything like that on here (there has been in the past when we had ads for a short while, but not any more). So the majority of cookies are essential ones (the site wouldn't work without them). There are a couple of optional cookies, for enhanced using of the site (eg one of them enables your previous emoji options to show up so you don't have to go searching for a favourite one each time). And there is just the one third party cookie, which is Youtube. And without that one you wouldn't see any of the embedded videos - you'd just get a banner saying "you need to accept third party cookies to view this content".
Anyway - since most people joined, they won't have had the new cookie options, so you can check out the cookie options and preferences at any time by clicking on the little cookie icon, right at the bottom left of the forum page (next to style chooser).
It does mean you can opt out of optional and third party cookies if you want, but then you'd probably be asked to opt into third party ones again if you wanted to watch a youtube video and would have a bit less functionality on the emoji block.
Youtube itself will add various other cookies to your device or browser, via watching videos, but that is no different to before, or to watching a youtube video anywhere.
If you click on the cookie icon it'll expect you to agree again
If anything changes - eg if for some reason there are some additional third party cookies in future, I'll let you know. All the cookies used on the site can be seen here (it's a page from the "Help" link at the bottom of the site).
It's all necessary these days. Personally I dislike cookie banners on every page you visit!
Basically, there's a requirement to allow people to reject optional cookies. Which is across the board for all websites, and not so relevant to this forum, where it would just lead to banners popping up when people want to view youtube videos if they don't accept the cookies!
