Thought I'd start a thread to give some visuals to different cage sizes in comparison to each other. Feel free to add photos of any size comparisons you have (ie one cage on top of another).

I have this photo of the Barney cage on top of a Hamster Heaven equivalent (it's actually the Savic Mickey 2XL but the same size as the Hamster Heaven).

On paper the Barney is only 20cm longer and 4cm deeper but it makes a huge difference to the amount of floor area for fitting a lot in, and also the greater expanse of bar area for attaching things.

100cm x 54cm (Grosvenor, Barney and others) gives a lot more floor area than 100cm x 50cm (Savic Plaza)

The advantage of a lot more floor area is not just the amount of enrichment you can fit in overall, but makes a big difference when the hamster is older and can't climb any more, or they need everything on one level - they can still have plenty of space for enrichment, even though it's all at floor level.

Even when they're not older, hamsters do a lot at floor level - roaming, foraging, digging, burying things and nesting. They only really climb for somewhere else to go or to get at food IMO.

This is why a large floor area is more important than a smaller cage which is taller, even if it has different levels. Although a large floor area, plus a shelf or level gives added enrichment when they're active.

4cm extra depth doesn't sound much - just over 2" - but that 4cm is for the whole 100cm length. 20cm extra length doesn't sound much (about 8") but that 20cm extra length is for the whole 54cm of depth. Overall it creates a lot more floorspace.

Eg

100cm by 54cm is approximately 835 square inches of floor area (Grosvenor XL 100 cage, Ritz cage, Volta cage)
100cm by 50 cm is approximately 773 square inches of floor area (Savic Plaza cage)
80cm by 50cm is approximately 619 square inches of floor area (Hamster Heaven, Hamster Sky)
78cm by 48cm is approx 579 square inches of floor space (grosvenor "large")

The biggest barred cage easily available, with hamster bar spacing, is the Ferplast Criceti 100 which is 95cm x 57cm - which is approximately 839 square inches

This one gives an idea of the depth and length of floor area for a 100 x 54cm cage from the top

Compared to what you can fit into a Hamster Heaven sized cage (80 x 50)

These set ups were all for a Syrian, with large items and rat sized items.

This photo shows the size difference between a Hamster Heaven sized cage (80 x 50) and a Kerry Terrarium (75 x 45). While the bottom part of the base of the cage is actually slightly smaller than the 75 x 45 base of the Kerry - the top part has a lot more space - ie the floor area after substrate is added - and the extra expanse of wall space for things to attach to the bars - wider shelves etc.
