Cleaning schedule

Thank you 🙏 I have only had him for a week on Wednesday. He doesn’t mind if my hand is in the cage at all, but I don’t think he is ready to come out yet. He is very territorial, he rubs himself on all his bowls etc… just started going this. Maybe I should wait a few days until my friend comes to help watch him in a playpen while I change the house? Then I could try to interact with him for a short time? I am so unsure

I would leave it another week :-) Just keep an eye on it. It probably won't subside very far. It's hard to tell but it doesn't look particularly heavy and with not being too large either, that would help.

Yes that’s probably the best idea 🙏

In the meantime I could get used to him climbing in a Pyrex jar with a treat in it… just so he’s used to that procedure. If he’s not ready for that, I will wait longer

Hi again! I’ve seen mixed opinions on this so I’m a bit worried..is it normal to be able to smell urine and just general “hamster smell” when near the cage? My boyfriend doesn’t notice it and I have an abnormally strong sense of smell, but of course I’m worrying lol. He’s created a new burrow since I cleaned his last one, and I was planning on doing another burrow clean next week, which will be 3wks after the last one

If it helps (re only cleaning Chumley every 3 months or so) we cant smell anything at all, even when removing the deep bedding there's only a faint smell. I assune he must pee in there although he's such a fastitiously clean boy it wouldnt suprise me if he didnt haha. He does go in his sandbath. He doesnt even like scatter feeding (is he the only hamster who doesnt!) - he gets hugely irritated about having to go and put it all in his food bowl Where It Should Be for later.
