He is weighing you up! Yes Raffy enjoyed a bit of sprout and a Christmas Rosewood treat - which he took to a special place. He'd have me up all night if I left him. Always wants to come out just as I'm going to bed.

Today I got some new things for Charlie from Mr Amazon , he now has a new 28 cm Trixie Wooden wheel which is way way better than the plastic ones and was about the same price, and a new wooden house as well the Mrs thinks I'm mad , he has had his first taste of salad greens and beetroot and some boiled egg which he snatched from my fingers ! He is very very wary unlike George who was my placid even at a very young age, he is also a damned quick little oik too.

Lucky Charlie! Those wheels are very nice - it has a cork lining. Are you going to plastikote it? I just did the inside of mine, plus the cork running track, so it was wipe clean. He might be wary now but may grow out of it :) Sounds like he liked the boiled egg!

Aww that is lovely. It is interesting getting to know his personality.😀

I’m sure he’ll like the wheel & house, & his confidence will no dobt grow too.

That's a jolly good point about the Plastikote, did you use the clear?

I use the clear but some people used coloured ones. It's about £4 on amazon and I just use a 1" paint brush. I think a lot of people paint the whole thing but I usually just paint the inside and never had a problem - the outside of the wheel seems to stay clean. It only takes a few minutes to paint on and then dried hard in a few hours.

Not sure which cage you have, but when I had that in the Savic Mickey 2XL (same as hamster heaven), which is quite a low cage, I decided to screw it to the roof so it hung upside down. So there was a bit of a gap under it for substrate. But it works fine freestanding as well. It's a lovely silent wheel and nice on their feet :)

Charlie seems to love his new wheel, when I came home this morning he was running like a demon in it !!! he is liking his salad greens too which is a good thing.
Though today he has also taken to Burrowing...

It is lovely to hear Charlie is happy with his new wheel and enjoying his fresh veg. :)

Glad he loves his new wheel :). Sounds like it's too late to plastikote it lol. But don't worry, our last hamster didn't pee in his wheel at all and it stayed quite clean. Our Charlie used to pee in his wood wheel before I'd heard of Plastikote and I just used to wash the wheel under a tap anyway and it was fine.

How lovely Charlie is enjoying his new wheel and he’s starting to burrow, sounds like he enjoys his food too, they all love a bit of egg :)

Plastikote dries very quickly. Hobbycraft and Wickes sells it as well and some hardware shops. If you give it a couple of coats in the morning it should be fine by the evening.

I noticed last night/this morning that Charlie has Pee'd in his wheel, so a wash out and Plastikote is on the cards...

Charlie emerging from his burrowing... Looked today and there are multiple holes and disturbed things he is very much a crazy individual, he puts up with me stroking him a little but flees as soon as I try to pick him up. It also appears he sleeps in his burrows too..!

Lovely photo of Charlie 😍
Sounds like he’s settling in & making his home his own!

Aww Charlie is so cute! You took such a lovely photo of him.

There is a very mischievous look on this cute little face! I think Charlie Boy is going to delight and entertain us with his antics as he grows up.

Hello Charlie Boy , lovely to meet you. Glad you are settling in so well!

Well the latest Charlie update,
Charlie has become a subterranean Hamster, after noticing he liked to burrow I made a deeper substrate section of his cage which he seems to like rather a lot half the time all I see is his back end vanishing into one of his burrows, other than that he is either running on his wheel or sitting still with it rocking as he watches me intently when I come home from work at silly o'clock. He likes defrosted mixed veggies though leaves most of the carrots. Today he is getting a little roast duck and cucumber as his treat so will see if he likes that, he devoured a little piece of roast beef at the weekend.
