We bought our first hamsters almost a year ago - three hybrid (Campbell’s/Winter White) brothers. We named them Chan, Changbin, and Han (collectively 3Hamcha.) We were given the wrong information by the pet store; first, in telling us that they were Robos, and second, saying the three of them were fine living together.

They were fine for a couple of months, and then Changbin began pulling Chan’s fur out in big patches. We put Chan in a temporary tank, hoping the other two would be okay together, but then Han started yanking out Changbin’s fur. We ended up re-homing those two, and kept Chan. His fur grew back nicely, and he seemed much happier.

We’ve been learning much more about hamsters over the last year, and just a couple of weeks ago added three more to our home (along with two gerbils we already had.) Chan is the only one so far who is comfortable with us and seems to like crawling on us and getting his treats. We have nighttime cameras because we don’t want to miss any of the cute antics.

Aw looking forward to hearing more about Chan :-) It's awful that pet shops still do that - I'm so glad you separated them. And Chan can flourish now. That second photo Chan looks very determined about something! And the last one is just adorable.

There's photo competition on at the moment if you want to enter :-) It's only one photo entry though so you'll have some tough decisions to make!

I honestly regret now that we thought we couldn’t keep Chan’s brothers; we should have just added more enclosures. We were so new to hamsters, we didn’t think we could afford or handle it. Clearly wrong, since we have more now. At least we know they went to forever homes.

Oh Lord, I have so many pics, ha ha. That last one is definitely a fave; I use it as a header on other sites. I’ll check out your link, thanks!

We have all been there, as first time hamster owners. And been told the wrong thing by pet shops or sold the wrong sort of cage :-)
